Direct Support Professional Job Description
This is an hourly position. Overtime is paid after 40 hours have been worked in a workweek
(Sunday to Saturday). This may be a full-time or part-time position
Qualifications
- Over 18 years of age
- High School Diploma/GED
- Valid PA Driver’s License
- Clean Criminal Background Check
- Must be physically able to lift an individual with the assistance of 1 other person. A DSP must never lift alone. (average weight is about 150 pounds)
The DSP provides services for consumers by following the ISP and the program specialists’ direction. He or she must be committed to Cori’s Place’s mission of “HELPING
INDIVIDUALS with DISABILITIES CREATE a BETTER LIFE.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide services and support to the individual as specified in the individual plan.
Assistance for each individual can range from occasional verbal reminders to total assistance by the staff according to the ability level of the individual.
2. Interact with all individuals and all staff in an appropriate manner while respecting others’ individual rights.
3. Assist with personal care activities for consumer such as but not limited to grooming, bladder care, bowel care, menstrual care, etc.
4. Perform housekeeping activities with consumers, including but not limited to cooking, feeding, grocery shopping, storing meals, helping consumers with washing/drying dishes, sweeping, cleaning bathrooms, etc.
5. Assist clients with ADL’s. A few examples are basic communication skills, meal planning, cooking, clean up, storage, and the ability to safely use kitchen equipment and utensils, grocery shopping, personal shopping, community outings, doing laundry, washing dishes, dusting, vacuuming, and maintaining a hygienic place of residence, functional math, etc.
6. Drive individuals in a variety of Cori’s Place vehicles to a variety of destinations.
7. Assist consumers in medical appointments, recreational activities and community outings. Some examples of these activities are: swimming, bowling, picnicking, going to the movies, going out to eat.
8. Assist individuals with paperwork and using the computer
9. Assist individuals in reaching their personal goals as directed in the ISP and with the Program Specialists’ guidance.
10. Administer Medications as ordered by medical professional and according to ODP guidelines and certification.
11. Enjoy working with individuals with disabilities and treat each individual with dignity.
12. Complete daily service notes and other mandated paperwork.
13. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
14. Complete a minimum of 24 hours of training per year provided by Cori’s Place
15. Participated in and attend all in-services and trainings
16. Work overtime hours as scheduled. Overtime up to 24 hours per pay period may be mandated.
17. Comply with all duties, policies, procedures, and protocol and other written or verbal directives.

Pay: $13.50 - $15.00 per hour
