TITLE: Lead Educational Sign-Language Interpreter
QUALIFICATIONS:
Degree from Interpreter Training Program, experience as an educational interpreter in classroom setting and Ohio license as an Educational Interpreter. Strong problem-solving skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
REPORTS TO:
Program Supervisor
JOB SUMMARY:
The lead interpreter works in collaboration with the program supervisor to maintain and improve interpreter skills. The lead interpreter serves as a technical resource to the interpreter staff. The lead interpreter assists the supervisor with performing the daily support functions, including creating and maintaining databases.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Observe technical interpreting skills of the educational interpreters and make suggestions for improvement to staff and program supervisor.
2. Provide input about educational interpreter skills to the program supervisor.
3. Monitor, track, and report interpreter time sheets and overtime for invoicing and compensation.
4. Coordinate coverage for district’s extra-curricular interpreter requests.
5. Manage daily interpreter substitute assignments.
6. Act as a substitute educational interpreter when necessary.
7. Assist the program supervisor with the interview and selection process for educational interpreter candidates
8. Recruit substitutes.
9. Explore new markets for interpreter services.
10. Assist with planning of professional development for educational interpreters.
OTHER PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Consult with the program supervisor as needed about staff assignments.
2. Collaborate with program supervisor in advising school districts regarding the needs of individual students with hearing loss.
3. Maintain professional materials and suggest resources to support professional growth.
4. Maintain regular attendance.
5. Must be able to travel to various locations on a daily basis
6. Assume other duties as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
1. Salary as per current Educational Interpreter salary schedule, plus stipend for Lead duties.
2. School calendar adopted or any amendments thereto
3. Valid driver’s license.
4. Fulfill all duties in connection with his/her job assignment as he/she may be directed to perform.
5. Abide by and maintain all rules, regulations and policies presently in existence, adopted this contract term for its government and the government of its employees and pupils of the school district.
EVALUATION:
Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the Board policy on evaluation of Educational Interpreters.
SALARY & BENEFITS:
Salary to be established by the Board.
