Private Home Chef / Summer Season / Temporary Position
Seeking qualified, organized, and caring Seasonal Chef for private family’s vacation home near Saranac Lake in upstate New York for this coming summer season. The Chef’s primary responsibility is to create delicious meals for the family (and friends sometimes), ensuring each dish is nutritious, of excellent quality and served in a timely, friendly manner.
A key part of this role is to notate different family member’s preferences, favorite recipes, and ingredients. Great communication with the family for their meal selections is extremely important to allow sufficient time to prepare family meals and obtain ingredients that are not already in stock. Other responsibilities would include keeping the kitchen, ovens, refrigerators, freezers, pantries, and food storage areas in a highly organized and extremely clean state.
NON-NEGOTIABLE details: The home is only accessible by boat. You MUST be able to drive a small boat on your own to make regular grocery runs. You must also be fit and capable of carrying groceries up flights of stairs.
If not a local, we will cover travel expenses to and from family's home.
Key Responsibilities
· Coordinate daily with family members on desired menus for the week, primarily for 6 family members
· Plan menus, keeping in mind budget and availability of fresh, locally sourced, seasonal ingredients
· Source and place orders, sometimes needing to pick up groceries yourself in town
· Plan, prepare and serve dinner parties of up to 12, potentially at short notice
· Able to assist with parties
· Ensure proper receiving and storage of all food and supplies
· Maintain a high standard of cleanliness throughout the kitchen and storage areas
· Other duties as assigned.
Requirements - Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills, Abilities
· Extensive knowledge of various cuisines and cooking techniques
· Thorough knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and nutrition
· Temperament that is flexible to be able to make last minute changes, special requests and provide for the differing menu needs of the family and friends being served
· Proven experience as a Private Chef in a family home, references required
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills
· Experience purchasing food and supplies
· Able to work on feet for duration of shift
· Comfortable making online purchases
· Must be able to lift/carry a maximum of 50 pounds unassisted, push/pull a maximum of 50 pounds. Stand, sit, bend, and walk for extended periods of time
· Must be 21 years old or older

Compensation and Schedule
This is a temporary, seasonal contract position. ASAP – September 15, 2024.
Will prepare breakfast, lunch and dinner, 6 days a week. The day off will vary, based on the family’s needs)
Compensation Per week: $1,800-$2,100 plus room and board, travel expenses (Will stay onsite in family cabin)
Education/Experience Level:
· At least 3 years’ experience as a private family chef, references required
· Food Handler Certification (required)
