Located in San Antonio, The Pineapple School is a child development center and preschool that provides Spanish language and cultural immersion for children six weeks to five years of age.
We are looking for candidates who truly enjoy and appreciate young children and have good verbal and written communication skills in Spanish. There are great opportunities for growth within the school for professional candidates who are looking for a life-time career in teaching.
Duties will consist of:
- Executing a developmentally appropriate program in line with the goals and philosophy of The Pineapple School;
- Teaching and interacting with the children in the Spanish language, exposing them to songs, finger plays, music and dance in Spanish;
- Planning and implementing developmentally appropriate lesson plans, ensuring needed materials and supplies are available in advance;
- Utilizing Conscious Discipline strategies to promote cooperation, constructive problem solving and academic success in the classroom;
- Engaging children in a playful learning environment both indoors and outdoors (outdoor playtime consists of two scheduled 45-minute periods each day);
- Assisting the children with personal hygiene;
- Ensuring the classroom is organized and stimulating; with age-appropriate print, displays and activities available to children at all times;
- Maintaining a safe and clean environment inside and outside the classroom, in compliance with Texas Minimum Standards for Child Care Centers and current policies of the Pineapple School (this includes taking out the trash; proper sanitizing of tables, counters, bathrooms, and toys; and organizing drawers, cabinets and shelves);
- Conducting individual assessments for students, maintaining individual portfolios to support these findings;
- Interacting with parents on a daily basis, regularly reporting positive observations of each child
- Leading mealtime activities, modeling good manners and assisting children with personal hygiene, which may include changing a child’s clothes in the event of an accident;
- Preparing crafts and activities for and participating in special events and celebrations such as Easter and Día de los Muertos;
- Attending staff meetings, training events and workshops, including a monthly staff meeting in the evening.
- 100% fluent in Spanish, verbally and written; Proficient in English
- Stability, intelligence and professionalism
- Raised in or otherwise have extensive experience living in a Spanish speaking culture outside of the United States, typically either in Mexico and/or Central and South America (preferred)
