Job Title: Ophthalmic Technician

SUMMARY
Tests and measures eye function to assist Ophthalmologist and/or Optometrist to diagnose and treat eye disorders and disease by performing the following duties as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but not limited to the following.
Other duties may be assigned.
Obtains complete ocular history, medical history, and present chief complaint.
Tests patient's far acuity, near acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, extra ocular motility, and color perception.
Examines eye for abnormalities of cornea, and anterior and posterior chambers.
Applies drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate eyes.
Measures intraocular pressure of eyes with Goldman Applanation (glaucoma test).
Tests patient's field of vision, including central and peripheral vision, for defects, and charts test results.
Performs refractometry, retinoscopy, fundus photography, fluorescein angiography and keratometry as needed.
Fits hard and soft contact lenses.
Assists doctor in surgical procedures.
Measures axial length of eye.
Performs other tests and measurements as requested by Ophthalmologist.
Gives instructions to patients concerning eye care and emergency phone triage.
SECONDARY DUTIES include but limited to the following.
Maintains and cleans equipment and keeps log updated.
Acts as scribe for physician.
Inventories and stocks supplies for exam rooms.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or GED required
Experience in medical field is preferred
