Position Summary
The Environmental Gas and Leachate Operations Technician is responsible for the operation and maintenance of landfill gas and leachate collection and control systems (GCCS) including gas well liquids dewatering, flares, pump stations, tanks, and blower banks.
Essential Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.

Properly operate the GCCS and Leachate removal systems in a timely and cost-effective manner to ensure regulatory compliance and optimize performance.

Operate and maintain liquid management system pneumatic or electric driven pumps (troubleshoot and determine liquid heights within liquid containment structures and or LFG collection wells).

Plan, organize, and manage gas well and cell liquid system design, construction, and operations.

Collect and manage data entry from environmental monitoring locations.

Implement and manage the GCCS preventative maintenance plan with a large focus on gas well dewatering.

Perform well field valve/vacuum adjustments, data collection and maintenance; interpret data.

Use Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) or High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) piping materials and associated equipment to perform maintenance on piping materials.

Troubleshoot GCCS and related systems.

Manage/supervise contractor activities.

Provide project management support.

Manage procurement and inventory of supplies and materials to perform job duties.

Review and analyze GCCS operating data and prepare reports.

Implement all job-related health and safety requirements and procedures.

Assembles and analyzes data. Tests and monitors results and creates appropriate reports.

Serve as a liaison between site and vendors, contractors, management, security, and others.

Execute necessary precautions to ensure safety and compliance with Company, OSHA, NYSDEC, EPA and other standards and regulations.

Available for on-call response (physically on site or by phone as required) to GCCS related malfunction events.

Safety Responsibilities

Understand, provide leadership, and communicate safety goals and objectives.

Orient, train and coach all staff on safety requirements, ensure safety compliance, and take appropriate action to address safety violations.

Establish and maintain a clean, safe work environment in compliance with company and OSHA standards and perform monthly Safety Inspections, as assigned.

If an incident occurs, including a near miss, complete documentation, conduct and investigation/root cause analysis and address performance/discipline issues.

Measure, manage, and minimize number of OSHA recordable injuries, Total Recordable Injury Rate (TRIR), DOT violations, and overall incidents.
Education and Experience
-
High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and five (5) years of relevant work experience in GCCS.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Excellent mechanical and technical skills/aptitude

Ability to optimize the performance of GCCS and leachate control systems.

Thorough familiarity with the operation of gas and leachate collection and combustion devices with the ability to troubleshoot this equipment remotely.

MS Office familiarity, general computer acumen and ability to learn to utilize other job-related technical software.
