BASIC FUNCTIONS:
REPORTS TO: Media Specialist, Campus
SUMMARY: Under general supervision of the librarian, assume responsibility for clerical support of the library including both checking books in/out and interlibrary loan, shelving books properly, assisting in inventory of the collection, maintenance of the media equipment, and assisting students and staff with media selection. Provide educational support through the open access of books and media and the development of lifelong reading and learning skills
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure students have access to books and materials needed for school assignments and research
- Shelve and maintain books and materials.
- Assist with the supply of books and materials for promotional reading programs throughout the years including RAH, RIF, EBL, and Book-It.
- Ensure the physical upkeep of the media center is neat and organized, including straightening shelves, and arranging displays.
- Complete required paperwork including book orders and overdue/lost notices.
- Maintain a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging all media center materials and instruct teachers and students on use of the system.
- Assist students in the skills related to reading, research, production of materials, and use of information technologies.
- Promote life-long learning by fostering positive attitudes toward libraries.
- Assist users in identifying, locating, and interpreting information.
- Promote appropriate conduct of students using media and other facilities.
- Promotes the library media program, services, and materials by maintaining a positive relationship with students, staff, and the community
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:Directly supervises none.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time; communicate verbally and electronically; hear radio, alarm, and voice communication; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; stand and move throughout the building and/or to other facilities; and drive. Frequently required to bend, crouch, stoop, kneel, and/or crawl; climb; and balance. Frequently required to lift or exert force of up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Eyesight must be correctable to 20/20

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
Salary commensurate with education and experience
Selected individuals for Dallas Independent School District positions will be placed according to compensation guidelines.
