Custodians are responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in Ada S. McKinley Community Services – Behavioral Health and Clinical Services (BHCS) Wentworth site by performing cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, and disinfecting. They manage waste disposal, restock essential supplies, and contribute to facility security by ensuring doors are secure. Custodians may also perform basic maintenance tasks, receive on-the-job training, and often possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Principal Duties/Responsibilities
- Maintenance and Cleaning: Custodians play a crucial role in maintaining a clean and sanitary environment by regularly cleaning and disinfecting designated areas. This includes sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and dusting to ensure a safe and pleasant space for People Served. This includes but not limited to: office spaces, waiting room, conference rooms, cafeteria, bathrooms, recreational room, and front curb.
- Trash Management: Custodians are responsible for proper waste disposal and management. This involves emptying trash bins and ensuring that waste is disposed of in accordance with established guidelines and regulations.
- Facility Security: Custodians contribute to the overall security of a facility by ensuring that doors and windows are securely locked after hours. They are also responsible for reporting any security concerns or suspicious activities to the appropriate supervisor.
- Restocking and Inventory Control: Custodians monitor and replenish cleaning supplies, toiletries, and other essential items in restrooms, breakrooms, and common areas. This involves keeping track of inventory levels and promptly notifying the appropriate supervisor when supplies need to be reordered.
- Routine Maintenance Tasks: Custodians may perform basic maintenance tasks, such as changing light bulbs, fixing minor plumbing issues, building furniture, and addressing other routine repairs. Their ability to identify and report larger maintenance issues helps in the overall upkeep of the facility.

- 1year experience with safety procedures and guidelines, such as, proper storage and handling of cleaning chemicals, adhere to safety protocols when using equipment, and awareness of emergency procedures.
- This position also calls for an individual who has been cleared by the State of Illinois based upon a prior history of child abuse/neglect. In addition, the individual must clear a personal background review, fingerprinting, and criminal checks.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is subject to sitting, walking, and standing for prolonged periods; frequently pushes, pulls, grasps, feels, and occasionally stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls. The employee frequently is required to use manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination when working with persons served and handling office, medical, or household equipment. The employee is subject to assist and lift up to 50 pounds with varying amounts of assistance on a recurring basis. The employee is required to have corrected vision and hearing within normal range and the ability to operate a motor vehicle. Must have the ability to perform CPR and CPI. Occupational exposure to blood, body fluids, and infectious substances, including communicable diseases, when performing personal care (Category III). Occasional exposure to cleaning agents and disinfectants.
Environmental Conditions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
