Overall Purpose of the Job: The Medical Laboratory Scientist Technician assists in the operations of the laboratory department, performing routine laboratory tests and supporting the day-to-day functions of a blood bank under the guidance of a laboratory supervisor. The role ensures accurate diagnostics and patient care through meticulous laboratory practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inventory and Supplies Management:
- Maintain sufficient inventory of materials, supplies, and equipment for laboratory duties.
- Coordinate preparation and procurement of chemicals, reagents, stains, and solutions.
- Compliance and Proficiency:
- Demonstrate proficiency with hospital and departmental practices reflecting Joint Commission, COLA, CLIA, CMS, OSHA, HIPAA, and Quality Improvement standards.
- Participate in laboratory Proficiency Testing programs to ensure technical competency.
- Laboratory Operations:
- Work with the Laboratory Supervisor to establish a walking blood bank.
- Perform routine and emergent lab tests for patient diagnosis and treatment.
- Assist the Laboratory Supervisor in the maintenance of the blood bank.
- Patient and Data Management:
- Maintain and protect the confidentiality of patient information.
- Provide patient care that promotes safety and well-being in the hospital and clinic departments.
- Professional Development:
- Maintain and improve own laboratory knowledge and skill competence.
- Participate in orientation and in-service training for personnel.
- Team Collaboration and Conduct:
- Support the hospital’s philosophy, objectives, and goals in line with the Organization’s mission and vision.
- Foster constructive relationships within the Laboratory and with other departments.
- Maintain professional conduct and promote positive customer and peer relations.
- Policy and Procedure Support:
- Assist in reviewing and revising policies and procedures.
- Enforce infection control policies and procedures.
- Mass Casualty Preparedness:
- Actively participate in Mass Casualty exercises and events.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Profile:
Required Skills and Knowledge:
- Proficiency in Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, and Urinalysis.
- Dexterity, attention to detail, and compliance with regulatory and safety requirements.
- Ability to perform complex testing, interpret findings, perform calculations, calibrate instrumentation, and review testing performed by other technologists.
- Knowledge of laboratory accreditation requirements (COLA, CLIA, CLIP).
- Quality, safety, and infection control standards.
- Knowledge of laboratory equipment, instrumentation, and terminology.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
- Strong communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work in a culturally diverse environment.
- Must demonstrate absence of color blindness (evaluated by a color vision screening examination such as Ishihara).
Experience Preferred:
- Experience on a military site, working as a government subcontractor or prime contractor.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience.
Education Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Laboratory Science, or a related scientific field with a demonstrated internship in an approved clinical laboratory training program.
- Current certification with a nationally recognized registry such as MT(ASCP).
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
- Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods.
- May require bending, stooping, and lifting up to 15 lbs.
Other Special Qualifications:
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC).
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English to effectively communicate.
- US Citizen.
- Ability to obtain a US DOS clearance.
- Must be able to relocate to Iraq.
- A valid passport is required and must be in possession prior to relocation, and maintained current during the stay in Iraq.

Pay: $20.96 - $23.93 per hour
