POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for insuring a smooth flow in the check-in and check-out process. Responsible for answering calls and representing the clinic with a positive, professional attitude. Also serves as the first point of contact for patients’ referrals to and from other medical offices. Responsible for data gathering and entering for research projects; serves as the main point of contact for the different research party members.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Welcomes patients and visitors by greeting patients and visitors, in person or on the telephone; answering or referring inquiries
- New patient input and insurance verification.
- Processing of all new patient paperwork, and IDs and forms needed for care.
- Maintaining the patient’s records with current information.
- Checking out patients after visit is completed
- Review progress note for instructions from provider(s)
- Requesting any orders or RX…coordinating with the patient liaison to ensure completion
- Scheduling follow up appointments
- Scheduling UGI, EGDs, Bravos, etc.
- Responsible for referrals
- Review that referrals are going out
- Make sure referrals have been received and documents are in patients’ charts prior to visit.
- Optimizes patients' satisfaction, provider time, and treatment room utilization by scheduling appointments in person or by telephone
- Reviews schedule 24/48 hours in advance
- End day balancing of money collected at check-out
- Direct calls to the appropriate staff member
- Accurately documents messages so calls can be returned promptly
- Protects patients' rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information
- Collects, verifies, records, and maintains data on clinical activity and/or research; prepares associated reports as required.
- Responsible for updating research database
- Communicate with provider anything related to research
- Maintains operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Triage patients and room them.
- Keep area clean and neat
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
- Collect co-pays/jump-start fees, balances as assigned.
- Calling patients who are lost to follow up and ensuring that the clinic schedule is filled to at least 30 patients/provider per day of clinic

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
- High School diploma or GED, social work or a related field.
- Prior experience in healthcare setting preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- An understanding of medical insurance policies preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Able to lift and move 50lbs.
- Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, patients, vendors, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
- Knowledgeable in various computer programs and software.
