Our team of 3 co-teachers works together to plan and implement the curriculum, and manage the day-to-day activities of the classroom. We are seeking a teacher who understands child development and wants to inspire learning. We provide a safe and stimulating classroom environment where children are actively engaged and encouraged to succeed. We are looking for an individual who is a dedicated, team player with good communication skills. We strive to meet the needs of the children, support families and work collaboratively as a cohesive team.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and implement curriculum
- Employ a variety of educational techniques (storytelling, educational play, small groups) to teach children
- Engage with children and encourage social, cognitive and emotional growth
- Work collaboratively as part of a teaching team and small business
- Maintain frequent communication with parents through informal discussions, weekly group emails and parent-teacher conferences
- Observe, assess and document children’s development in twice yearly progress reports
Wage Range and Benefits
Up to $22 – $23 per hour; 80% paid health, vision and dental insurance, paid vacation and sick days, paid holidays and professional development training.
Open Center for Children is a small, independent, play-based, early education and care program located near Tufts University/Davis Square and convenient to public transportation.

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required
- EEC Toddler/Preschool Teacher certification
- At least one year of experience as an early childhood teacher
- Excellent communication skills
- Basic computer skills (word processing, internet navigation)
- Understanding of child development
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Infant/child CPR and First Aid certifications that must be updated annually
- Must clear full background check
Educational Requirements
- CDA, Associate’s Degree, or higher
Physical Requirements
- Ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid
- Ability to see and read newsprint, with or without corrective lenses
- Ability to speak and be understood under normal circumstances
- Ability to lift and carry children and other items weighing up to 50 pounds
- Ability to use arms, hands, legs, and feet, with or without corrective devices; this includes the ability to evacuate the building during emergencies
- Ability to handle crisis situations, especially where children are involved
- Ability to respond immediately to emergency situations
