Job Summary
The Manual Machinist is responsible for safely operating/setting up various machining tools such as mills, angle grinders, band saws, hand drills, and lathes. The Manuel Machinist uses measuring devices such as micrometers and calipers with proper techniques to determine correct sizing.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Operate all start up and shut down a variety of machines following established company procedures and safety guidelines.
- Read/interpret Engineering drawings and quality specifications.
- Set up and manufacture complete parts from Engineering drawings minimizing scrap and rework.
- Set up and operate machining department equipment. (Bridgeport’s, Bar Stock Saw, Band Saw, Drill Press, Manual Lathe)
- Perform machining operations including turning, boring, facing, milling, drilling, and tapping.
- Perform part inspection using precision measuring instruments.
- First article inspection per prescribed inspection plan.
- Inspect and record succeeding parts for conformance to specification.
- Responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment including identification of unsafe conditions.
- Performs other duties as assigned and/or required.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Must be able to set up manual mills with fixtures/vise and tooling changes.
- Experience in job shop environment.
- Adherence of safe work practices.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings.
- Experience using shop measuring tools (such as mics, calipers, and take measure) and related mathematical concepts.
- Must be trainable and able to work with minimal direction.
