As a Planner you will become part of the DUSI team working to build, plan, design, engineer, and fix the most complex problems our customers face. This position will support DUSI’s Planning and Design group specifically focusing on overhead and/or underground electric distribution facilities ranging from 4kV through 115kV. In this role a Planner you will perform various planning and design activities including but not limited to fielding, pole loading, preparing a BOM, mapping, and quality reviews of the project. You will also be responsible to monitor and maintain your project schedules, report changes that affect the schedule and budget, identify risks that may affect schedule and costs, and present opportunities to improve the design and construction of various project types.
- Under minimal supervision, plan overhead and/or underground transmission/distribution facilities.
- Acquire field data as necessary working with field surveying crews and assigned design or project lead.
- Prepare Pole loading, design sketches, drawings, calculations, bills of material and any other required documents for construction. This could include plan and profiles, structure loadings, design details, trench and conduit drawings, and equipment specifications.
- Apply client’s standards, guidelines, & specifications in addition to industry standards in preparing the design of overhead and/or underground electric distribution facilities.
- Communicate with client and engineers on project requirements.
- Ability to work in the field and travel 50% of the time.
- Lift up to 50 lbs.
Experience & General Requirements
- One to five years of experience in the design & planning of electric utility distribution systems for utilities.
- Demonstrated ability to develop plan view utility design sketches for overhead or underground electric utilities.
- Demonstrated familiarity and knowledge of one-line or circuit drawings.
- One to five years of experience using pole loading design software such as O-Calc, SPIDACalc or PLS-CADD/PLS-Pole or similar software.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct pole loading and supporting design calculations (Breast Block & Key, Anchor, Pulling Calcs, Ruling Span, etc.).
- Demonstrated knowledge of California General Orders (GO95) & NESC standards.
- Applicant must have a valid U.S. Driver License. You should be legally authorized to work directly as an employee for any employer in the United States without visa sponsorship.
Desired Education, Abilities and Skills
- Experience using a distribution design software such as Design Manager (DM), SAP, DPSS, FFE, Maximo, or similar.
- Degree or Certificate in drafting and computer aided (CAD) design or civil, electrical, or mechanical engineering.
- Demonstrated ability to work with others in supplying information and seeking assistance as required.
