Position Overview
Central Texas Food Bank (CTFB) is seeking a Business Analyst to join our Strategic Insights division. We are looking for a candidate who has a passion for data and a keen interest in uncovering the narratives that data can reveal to our stakeholders about our progress. The Business Analyst will oversee our internal KPI and metrics processes and contribute to our business intelligence initiatives by developing dynamic dashboards, reports, and map visualizations. Additionally, the Analyst will be crucial in data reporting to Feeding America, our grantors, and both internal and external stakeholders. They will also play a vital role with data governance, creating and maintaining comprehensive documentation for data analysis efforts, such as requirements, technical designs, and user manuals. Importantly, the ideal candidate can effectively tell a story through data, translating analytic results into clear and actionable insights.
Relationships
This position reports to the Director of Data and Analytics and will collaborate effectively with all CTFB teams to understand their business problems and provide analytic solutions, ranging from automated dashboards to ad-hoc statistical analysis. This work will help to support CTFB’s mission to increase food access and food equity for all Central Texans.
Your Qualifications
- Ability to work onsite at the Food Bank in Austin, Texas (remote work options are not available for this position)

Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Management Information Systems, Business Analytics, Statistics, Data Science or related field

2+ years of experience with business intelligence data gathering and reporting solutions such as SQL, Tableau, PowerBI, Excel, ArcGIS, and other BI solutions

1+ years of experience with building automated dashboard solutions in BI platforms

Experience with code management platforms such as GitHub or GitLab a plus

Experience with data storytelling in live dashboards and static reports among differing levels of analytic and data maturity

Clear analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy

Advanced Microsoft Excel experience, including writing and using advanced functions and formulas (e.g., lookup & reference, nested logical expressions, aggregation)

Knowledge of statistics and experience using a statistical package for analyzing large datasets (Excel, R, Python, etc.)

Experience with establishing data quality as a shared responsibility (across Data, IT, and internal business teams)

Adept at queries or writing scripts

Knowledge of database structures and relational data tables

Self-motivated and used to working to tight deadlines

Ability to work on multiple priorities at the same time; be flexible to adapt or shift priorities according to organizational needs

Strong project management skills

Exposure to data warehousing, with working knowledge of T-SQL and/or MySQL languages preferred

Experience working at a food bank or in the food system sector a plus

Your Responsibilities
- Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing for greater scalability

Provide insights and proactively identify business problems using statistical analysis and data mining where needed

Assist key stakeholders to identify key performance indicators (KPIs) and measurements, and work to put systems in place that can make that information available to the resources that need it

Gather data from various sources, model the data, develop tools to visualize patterns and trends, and work with key stakeholders to analyze need, trends, and/or evaluate current initiatives

Present analyzed data through heat-maps, dynamic dashboards, and reports

Support on-going data requests, including weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports. Assist in the preparation of reports, data gathering, and completion of goals, metrics and deadlines

Coordinate and manage organizational reporting such Feeding America’s MPR, QPR, and NAR (Network Activity Report)

Perform qualitative and quantitative data analysis

Work with Data Analyst to monitor and maintain data warehouse

Perform data integrity and quality audits. Manage records maintenance and cleanup

Work with Database Manager to streamline, align, and document data management processes.
- Train staff on data storage and retrieval processes as needed

Working Conditions

Hours of Operation: Generally Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Some evening and weekend hours may be required during peak reporting deadlines

Environment: This position requires sitting for long periods of the time, utilizing computers, laptops, and other technology. The position also requires working alone and with others on a team

Travel: CTFB serves 21 counties in Central Texas and often requires same-day travel between counties, using a personal vehicle, CTFB passenger fleet and possibly occasional out-of-town travel for meetings or special events
