Social Program Coach Job Description
Primary Function:
A Coach provides direct support and care for clients with developmental and physical disabilities. This position supports and fosters client choice. The Coach will assist in the facilitation of activities of ICAN’s various Social Program day events. The Coach will assist the Program Manager in creating opportunities for people with developmental disabilities to meet new people and build relationships, in reflection of the ICAN mission and purpose while at events. The Coach must be an organized, flexible, detail-oriented, and dependable individual. This is an entry level position. The Coach reports directly to the Social Program Manager.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be at least 18 years of age
Be willing and able to drive ICAN vans and facilitate safe driving environment for clients staff and volunteers
Must be able to consistently arrive on time
Must have the ability to communicate with a variety of individuals including clients, guardians, care providers, vendors, volunteers, and the public
Must be able to multitask and work independently with clients
Must be able to meet schedules and deadlines
Must be able to facilitate and maintain a fun and safe environment
Must be an organized, flexible, detail-oriented, and dependable individual
Must follow all the rules and regulations listed in ICAN’s Policy and Procedures Manual and ICAN’s Code of Conduct and Ethics
Must be comfortable or desire to become comfortable with working with people with disabilities
Education, Experience, and Knowledge:
Must have high school education
Experience working with people with disabilities preferred but not required
Must have strong communication skills
Must be fluent in English and have basic English writing and grammar skills
Bilingual in Spanish or ASL is a plus
Licenses and Other Requirements:
Must have the ability to submit to a fingerprint clearance through LiveScan and TB Test before starting
If driving company vehicles, must have a valid California Driver’s License or valid Driver’s License from another state at the time of interview and throughout time with ICAN with a clean three year driving record. Must also submit to DMV background check and provide evidence of current auto registration and liability insurance
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
Having dexterity of hands and fingers to operate standard office and computer equipment
Sitting or standing for extended periods of time
Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 70 pounds including pushing a wheelchair
Transferring an individual with little or no weight-bearing skills
Bending at the waist, kneeling, or crouching to assist clients
Reaching overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally
Working in indoor and outdoor environments, as well as traveling
Essential Responsibilities:
Maintaining visual contact with the clients at all times, except when the clients are using the restroom facilities
Providing assistance to the clients during their outings and activities
Engaging in interactive conversations with clients that encourage opportunities for growth in defining, developing and implementing the clients’ goals in Social Recreation
Keeping cell phones on and within reach throughout an event to be able to receive communication from the administrative team (Cell phones should only be used for ICAN use during program hours.)
Taking photos and videos of clients at social events for use in company assets but not for personal use
Following and implementing all safety policies and procedures at all events
Ensuring spaces used by the group are cleaned up before leaving after an event
Reporting any unusual incidents, concerning behavior, or suspected abuse to the program manager immediately
As directed, driving company vehicles to transport clients to locations, which also requires use of defensive driving techniques and staying focused on the road at all times
Maintaining secure possession of ICAN cash allowances, company credit cards, and copies of receipts for all purchases, to be turned in at the end of an event
Participating in the preparing and executing of the schedule of outings and activities
Participating in team meetings as directed
Providing positive role modeling to clients and the ICAN community
Maintaining positive and cooperative working relationships with clients, guardians, coworkers and ICAN staff
