Job Summary
Under the direction of the Biomedical Engineering Manager/Supervisor the Biomedical Equipment Technician is responsible for installations, repairs, regular maintenance, and calibration of most classes of medical equipment at the component level.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
The following duties and responsibilities generally reflect the expectations of this position but are not intended to be all-inclusive.
Perform installations, regular maintenance, repairs, and calibrations on assigned medical equipment to ensure their proper operation and function
Perform all assignments in a competent and timely manner according to current policies and procedures
Install, repair, and calibrate most classes of medical equipment at a component level
Perform planned maintenance and electrical safety inspections as assigned
Use diagnostic service software appropriate to the equipment being serviced
Assist in the evaluation of new equipment, accessories, and supplies
Inspect incoming equipment for compliance with codes, standards, and manufacturer’s instructions
Work with new hires and cross-trains on systems and equipment to ensure proper operation of equipment and techniques for testing, calibrating, operating, and troubleshooting biomedical systems and equipment
Establish and maintains files of supporting literature for each piece of medical equipment, such as the manufacturers technical literature, reference standards, specifications, and other documents necessary to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulatory agencies including TJC
Accurately and legibly accounts for productive time using the departments computerized maintenance management system
Assist with the administrative record keeping responsibilities of the department, such as work orders, maintenance history records, PM and safety inspection requests, and repair parts inventory; as well as any necessary reports to ensure accurate recording of activities for code and regulatory purposes
Process work requests and turn in completed work requests in a timely, results oriented and professional manner
With management approval, use the electronic system to order necessary parts, devices, etc. to properly repair or complete assigned work orders
Use department hardware and software to electronically process and close work orders and PM assignments
Document time and expenses in a timely and accurate manner
Ensure proper care of equipment and tools issued for maximum safety and productivity and adhere to all personal safety requirements
Diligently maintain all tools and equipment in clean, safe, working order
Maintain adequate inventory of related parts to perform assigned duties
Maintain technical skills and required certifications to perform job duties
Adhere to all safety requirements and wears the proper personal protective equipment required by the job
Respond to emergency situations to ensure employee, patient and facility safety
Champion overall safety in the department and report possible safety issues and recommends appropriate changes
Comply local, state, and federal regulations
Demonstrate a strong commitment to the philosophy and values of Carrollton Regional Medical Center (CRMC).
Maintain friendly, efficient, positive customer service attitude toward customers, clients and co-workers and respond professionally to customer needs
Cooperate and collaborate with the CRMC leadership to champion and meet the strategic goals of CRMC
Adhere to CRMC and the support service departments policies and procedures including appropriate attire and grooming
Work to actively meet and exceed the performance improvement goals set by the department and or CRMC and all quality improvement targets
Willing to serve on departmental and/or CRMC committees or focus groups as requested and needed
Interact in a friendly effective manner, builds relationships, and demonstrates a high level of cooperation and customer service
Communicate effectively with the Biomed Supervisor and other Biomedical Equipment Technicians on a regular, formal, and informal basis to discuss possible concerns with the Clinical Engineering department and/or any medical equipment
Perform other position appropriate duties as required in a competent, professional, and courteous manner
Ability to participate in on-call rotation
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications
AAS BMET/ Military Equivalent
3+ years' experience in biomedical engineering technology
Radiology equipment trainings and experience and/or certificate (CRES) is a plus.
Working Conditions
Physical Requirements: Continuously stand/walk or lift/handle/carry material or equipment of moderate weight (20 to 50 lbs.). Examples: Nurses, LVNs, and physical therapists.
Environment: Located in an environment with regular exposure to moderate physical discomfort from fumes or odors, temperature extremes, loud noises and bright lights. Examples: mail clerks, material handlers and food service workers.
Respiratory Category: Job tasks do not involve exposure to respiratory particulates and the use of respiratory protection is not a condition of employment."
Hazard 1, 2, or 3: OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen Category 2: Tasks that involve no exposure to blood, body fluids, tissues, and other potentially infectious materials; but employment may require performing unplanned Category 1 tasks.
Hazard 4: Tasks that involve, or may involve, exposure to OSHA regulated substances as stated in MSDS.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of the job, the teammate is regularly required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, twist, stoop and kneel. Regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel, talk or hear. Specific vision abilities include close, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
