Title: Secondary Principal
Reports to: Superintendent
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in education
- 2+ years’ experience as a principal or in a school leadership role
- Principal License
- Valid State Certification

Nature and Scope of Job: The principal is responsible for all aspects of the building which include but are not limited to: instruction; curriculum; staff supervision and evaluation; staff development; student discipline; record-keeping; public relations; and maintenance of building and grounds.
Specific Duties
- Keeps or causes to be kept, accurate personal records for all students including cumulative records, grades, attendance, etc.
- Keeps or causes to be kept, an accurate record of all monies received.
- Provides a safe and orderly environment.
- Administers disciplinary measures in the school that are required by policy and state law.
- Keeps all staff members advised of disciplinary measures.
- Keeps records of all disciplinary measures taken.
- Recommends to the Superintendent of Schools expulsion of students whenever behavior necessitates.
- Supervises non-certified personnel; including secretaries, clerks, custodians, aides, and lunchroom personnel who work within the building. This will include making recommendations to the Superintendent for promotion, demotion, transfer, or termination of all such non-certified personnel.
- Supervises and evaluates all instructional personnel and provides assistance whenever needed to facilitate academic growth.
- Makes recommendations of contract status, re-employment, or termination of contract for all instructional personnel.
- Makes recommendations of curriculum changes and the implementation of curriculum changes.
- Manages the various school improvement processes.
- Keeps the Superintendent, Board of Education, school, and public informed of the education program and progress within the school.
- Coordinates with other principals and superintendent to plan and implement Staff Development Program for all personnel.
- Supervises all student activities and programs within the school.
- Supervises all instructional staff regarding health, safety, and welfare of students and employees.
- Attends all administrative meetings and implements program suggestions or changes.
- Assumes responsibility for recruiting and retaining quality staff.
- Works to develop and sustain a quality curriculum.
- Assists in the development and implementation of instructional process.
- Attending special education meetings.
- Holds periodic meetings of all instructional staff to keep them informed and advised of duties, policies, and possible curriculum changes.
- Strives to create a climate of positive relations with and between all personnel in the school and between the school and home.
- Reviews educational practices, materials and curriculum and promotes the use of "Best Practices".
- Help to draft and update student and staff handbooks to include information of staff, schedules, district policies, and other pertinent information.
- Screens requests for materials and supplies to determine the relationship of the materials to the program.
- Creates within the school a climate of freedom to allow staff members and students to develop and perform to the extent of their capabilities.
- Initiates and maintains a School Improvement Plan consistent with CDE accreditation.
- Assists with the administration of the lunch program within the building.
- Involves staff and parents in CDE accreditation process.
- Collects and maintains records and data required for CDE accreditation and completes all required forms for the process.
- Provides for timely and straight forward communications with parents and community.
- Assists with the development and distributes school report cards annually.
- Uses appropriate software to communicate, track students and data, and complete forms.
- Knows and follows federal and state laws and district policies and regulations.
- Administers the budget and ensures that all monies collected, and disbursements made are properly accounted for.
- Helps to build and maintain the master schedule.
- Conducts fire, tornado, and crisis drills.
- Provides for the supervision of summer school.
- Performs other duties as assigned:
- Public Relations
- Attends and responds to district committee meetings.
- Attending student centered events.
- Attends and Supervises student activities.
- Assists in the planning and conduct of ceremonial activities.
Other Duties
- Supervise and monitor District prioritized activity/athletic budget and expenditures.
- Fosters good community-school relations in conjunction with Activities Director by keeping the patrons aware of and responsive to on-going athletic programs. Seeks to build relationships with community organizations such as Montrose West Rec, Booster Clubs, businesses, and other school districts to promote excellence in activities.
- Supervises and administers in concert with Activities Director the overall CHSAA athletic programs for grades 6 through 12.
- Provides visionary leadership for program improvement of athletic and activities.
- In concert with the Activities Director and head coaches, provides leadership in the selection, assignment and evaluation of all athletic coaches. Works with the HR department to develop and maintain a recruiting and hiring process for all coaches and sponsors. To include posting open positions, hiring, training, and proper exit interviews.
- Work with Activities Director on activities and schedules.
- Work with Activities Director on activities planning and home events.
- Oversee the scheduling of District facilities usage for games and practices, following WEPS policy and procedures.
