The Birthing Center Technician at Watauga Medical Center plays a critical role in supporting the healthcare team to ensure the safe and effective delivery of care to mothers and newborns. This role involves assisting in the preparation and maintenance of birthing rooms, providing direct and indirect patient care, and supporting the nursing staff and physicians with various tasks to ensure a smooth and positive birthing experience. Key Responsibilities
Patient Care Support:
- Assist in the admission, transfer, and discharge of patients.
- Provide comfort and reassurance to patients and their families.
- Assist with positioning, bathing, and other personal care needs of patients.
Clinical Assistance:
- Prepare and maintain birthing rooms, ensuring cleanliness and readiness for deliveries.
- Assist in setting up and cleaning delivery and post-delivery rooms.
- Support nurses and physicians during labor and delivery procedures.
- Handle and operate medical equipment as directed.
Operational Duties:
- Maintain inventory and stock supplies in birthing rooms and supply closets.
- Ensure the availability of sterile instruments and equipment.
- Transport specimens to the laboratory as required.
Documentation and Communication:
- Accurately document patient care activities in medical records.
- Communicate effectively with the healthcare team regarding patient status and any changes observed.
Compliance and Safety:
- Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures, including infection control and safety protocols.
- Participate in continuing education and training programs to stay current with best practices and technologies in maternal and newborn care.
Compensation is competitive and commensurate with education and experience. Hiring compensation ranges from $16.50 - $23.92 / hour. This position is also eligible for PRN shift differential on top of base rate of pay.
- Regularly exposed to the risk of blood-borne diseases.
- Frequently exposed to hazards from electrical/mechanical/power equipment, odorous chemicals, and specimens and unpleasant elements (accident, injury, slippery surfaces, uneven surfaces), etc.
- Subject to irregular hours (days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays) and emergencies.
- Continuous standing and walking long periods = to or greater than > 8 hours per shift.
- Speaking, reading, and writing, expanded > 8 hours per day.
