Mid Lane Carriers, a prominent local drayage trucking company based in Wilmington, CA, has been successfully operating for 8 years with a substantial fleet of 27 trucks. Our core operations primarily revolve around facilitating local deliveries within a 100-mile radius from the ports of LA/LB. As a company focused on growth, we are currently seeking qualified individuals to join our expanding team.
Mid Lane Carriers is currently in search of a reliable and experienced full-time Lead Dispatcher. The ideal candidate for this position must exude confidence in dispatching drivers and efficiently scheduling containers. Essential skills include knowledge with all terminals, proficiency in making terminal appointments, adeptness in routing drivers to the correct terminal and delivery locations, effective coordination of deliveries, and a comprehensive understanding of per diem and demurrage to minimize dry runs to terminals/deliveries. Moreover, we are looking for an individual who is self-motivated and enthusiastic about contributing to the continued success of our team. The working hours for this position are Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Qualification: The preferred candidate should thrive in a fast-paced environment, demonstrate strong organizational skills, exhibit the ability to work independently, possess excellent communication skills, be proactive in taking initiative, and display a keen attention to detail.
Requirements:
- 3+ years in port trucking
- Ability to schedule and trace containers
- Dispatch and monitor drivers
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Uses good judgment in making decisions in emergency and routine situations
- Excellent organization and multi-tasking skills
- Ability to effectively interpret contract rules and requirements
- Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication and organizational skills
- Must have a pleasing personality and ability to get along with adults
- Ability to deal effectively with a wide variety of personalities in situation requiring diplomacy, friendliness, confidentiality, poise, tact and good judgment
- Proficient in Spanish (not required, but huge plus)
Responsibilities: You will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:
- Scheduling appointments with the terminals for empty terminations and import loads when requested or missed.
- Coordinating deliveries with customers.
- Assisting drivers with any issues that may arise. For example: issues related to warehouse operations, terminal logistics, and truck breakdowns.
- Corresponding with customers via email.
- Tracking containers at the port.
- Updating Excel sheets, scanning documents, and filing paperwork.
- Reviewing the night shift's work for accuracy.
- Organizing drivers for freight deliveries at terminals. For both shifts, day and, night.
- Communicating with customers to finalize freight details, delivery or pickup times, and any special handling requests.
- Planning predetermined routes and adjusting them as necessary.
- Keeping records of dispatched calls, driver routes, route changes, as well as delivery and pickup times.
- Performing various office duties and providing assistance as needed.
