Orbital Welder - Engineering Technician
SmartFlow Technologies, a Sanford based filtration company, is seeking an Engineering Technician.
Prior experience with Orbital welding preferred but will provide training for the right candidate. A strong mechanical background and previous experience in a manufacturing environment is required.
Position Description:
- Experience with orbital welding of sanitary stainless-steel tubing preferred (primary function)
- Cutting and facing of material to proper length and angles
- Prepping, cleaning, welding of tubing
- Pipe fitting in accordance to the engineering drawings
- Inspecting including borescope and liquid penetrant of parts prior to installation
- Adjusting weld programs as needed to produce good welds
- Polishing or secondary operations to meet customer/industry standards
- Maintain inventory of consumables such as fittings, tubing, tungstens, etc.
- Hands on function (mechanical assembly and testing of systems, pulling wires, working from drawings, sketches, and models)
- Some travel required (may visit customer site’s during product start up or operation) (<30% principally domestic)
- Supports plant Engineers on Capex projects when needed
- Must be able to read and understand P&IDs, 2d and 3d engineering drawings.
- Supports manual welders with fitting and polishing
- Member of the plant’s engineering team; performs experiments and assists with process and product qualifications,
- Maintains shop cleanliness and works within company’s safety standards
- Installs equipment upgrades and executes general engineering projects.
- Maintains demonstration equipment under direction from Engineering
- Assist with the preventive maintenance of production equipment, calibration of instruments and general facilities maintenance for a 30,000 square foot production facility.
Qualifications:
- The ability to orbital weld from prep through inspection is required
- Mechanical aptitude required
- Possesses basic level shop math skills
- Experience in similar role in a manufacturing environment preferred
- Must be able to read P&ID, schematics, and 2D/3D drawings
- Teamwork oriented mindset
- Ability to use hand tools and electrical test equipment
- Basic knowledge of pumps, motors, piping, and basic pneumatic systems
- Basic electrical knowledge a plus,
- High school diploma (Associates degree is a plus)
- Knowledge of Microsoft office applications (Word and Excel)
- Good verbal and written communication skills in English

Pay: $21.00 - $25.00 per hour
