POSITION GOAL
The Assistant Director, Safety & Security Operations will directly support the Director, Safety & Security Operations to manage, coordinate, and enhance District-wide safety and security operations, with a specific focus on leading and managing the day-to-day security operations. This includes not only an adeptness in security operations, but also familiarity with budget, payroll, training management, administration, human resources, and property accountability. The incumbent must be prepared to serve as a member of the professional multi-disciplinary team that works collaboratively to protect students, employees, volunteers, and visitors to all our traditional, non-traditional schools and administrative sites. - An earned bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Criminology, Law Enforcement, or a related field.
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience successfully managing personnel in security, military, law enforcement, or an emergency management program in a large or complex environment.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License and be able to operate District vehicles safely in the performance of job duties.
- Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse groups, including students, faculty, staff, and community members.
- Computer skills as required for the position, including proficiency in security and business-related software. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
An earned Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Education Administration, Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Criminology, Law Enforcement, or a related field.
In-depth knowledge of the Incident Command System in accordance with the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s National Response Framework on procedures for emergency planning, preparedness, management, and response, especially in an educational context.
Advanced security and/or law enforcement certifications or equivalent certifications in business process management. • Formal training and/or education in security, security management, security administration, or business process optimization.
Prior experience working in an educational environment.
Prior military experience, particularly in roles that involved training, leadership, or handling complex events.
Experience managing a large security team or guard force operation, with a preference for experience in educational or similarly complex settings.
Bilingual skills, with an emphasis on languages prevalent in the school district community. SIGNIFICANT CONTACTS-frequency, contact, purpose
Frequently meets with the Director, Safety & Security Operations, Chief - Safety, Security, & Emergency Preparedness Officer and Safety, Security & Emergency Preparedness leadership to make sure safety and security programs are well coordinated and consistent across the District. Regularly meets with District and school administrators, safety and security personnel, law enforcement and other governmental agencies as needed. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force as needed to move objects. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Incumbent shall be subject to specialized training, background reviews and confidentiality and compliance requirements as outlined by the Chief - Safety, Security, & Emergency Preparedness Officer and other agency user agreements to fulfill the duties of the position. The incumbent is “essential personnel” subject to being held over or called back to a District work location or alternate site at all times. Incumbentmay be assigned to the other operational support venues as deemed necessary by department leadership. Position shall be exposed to confidential, restricted, and highly sensitive information requiring the utmost discretion and compliance with all administrative rules, directives, policies, procedures, regulations, and statutes governing its distribution. The position requires compliance with all District policies, regulations and statutes relating to privacy including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
