Histology Technician
Key Accountabilities/Competencies:
- Must have quality skill in embedding and cutting tissue samples.
- Work as part of a dynamic team, preparing slides to be stained and collated for the Dermatopathologist.
- Function within a work flow centered around a Sakura Xpress microwave processor (processing time 1-2 hours).
- Perform special stains, with controls, and control logs.
- Perform routine instrument maintenance (Sakura Xpress microwave processor, Sakura Prisma/Film stainer/coverslipper, Sakura Tissue Tech TEC 5 embedding station), and troubleshoot instrument problems, documenting corrective actions and record quality control.
- Accurately label slides with accession numbers and confirm number correlation.
- Perform final collation of slides with protocol, and deliver these to the Dermatopathologist.
- Keep the histology laboratory stocked, clean and free of safety hazards. Performs quality control of reagents and equipment with daily preventative maintenance, and dispose of contaminated tissue and reagents.
- Communicate with other lab personnel, the Dermatopathologist, and Dermatology staff to resolve any problems, with the intention of maintaining harmonious relations with all laboratory and dermatology staff.
- Provide some cross coverage of the accessioning and grossing areas.
Requirements:
Candidate must have a Florida Histotechnician license and national certification (e.g., ASCP) is required. Candidate must be energetic, dependable, detail-orientated, very conscientious individuals who works well with others and enjoys a challenge. Hours Mon-Thur 8am-6pm and Fri 8am-1pm
