Description:
REPORTS TO: Assistant Director of Special Education and/or Site Administrator
JOB TYPE: Full-time
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Work with educators and other staff to develop structures and procedures that will enable students with challenging behaviors to succeed in school and community.

Implement, modify, and report on those procedures for identified students.

Collect data as needed to monitor efficacy of individual behavioral programs.

Communicate observations and student outcomes to staff and administration.
-
Work directly with students at-risk to help them develop appropriate behaviors and conflict resolution skills.

Provide support to staff and students in the event of a safety-related incident, including , when necessary, the use of appropriate physical intervention.

Support students in their efforts to complete classroom work and to achieve their annual and long-term academic goals.

Other duties as assigned by the Site Administrator or the Director of Special Education.
Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS:

Certification as a Teaching Assistant from the Rhode Island Department of Education, or completion of a B.A. or B.S. in a related field (Sociology, Counseling, Criminal Justice, etc.) preferred; Associate's Degree holders will be considered.

Relevant work experience and effectiveness with a population that exhibits challenging behaviors.

Knowledge and understanding of health, safety and emergency procedures in a school environment.

Possess a current Chauffeur’s license, or ability to obtain one.

Training and competency in Crisis Intervention/Mediation preferred, or ability to successfully complete training on hire.

Sufficient maturity, self-confidence, and work habits to serve as a role model to students.

Clear record on Criminal Background Check.
