THE POSITION
Under general supervision, operates all power grounds equipment; performs complex grounds and gardening work.
CURRENT OPENING: Four 12-month/40 hours per week positions. Salary placement will be on Range 21 of the CSEA Salary Schedule "B." Initial salary placement for new employees is customarily at step 1 ($4,171.89 per month) of this salary range.

*Per Board policy, employees are allowed on District campuses or facilities only if they are fully vaccinated. This resolution applies to all applicants upon hire. ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Mows, edges, trims, and prunes landscaped areas using a variety of power grounds equipment, such as large power mowers, power edgers, chipper, and tractors.
- Performs tree-trimming using a chain saw and aerial lift.
- Fills, levels, rolls, smooths, and prepares ground for planting of lawns or paving. Sprays landscaped areas with herbicides for weed control.
- Prepares and fertilizes soil in order to plant lawns, trees, shrubs, hedges, and flowers. Distributes sand, dirt, and wood chips.
- Loads trucks with trimmings and trash.
- Assists in moving and arranging bleachers, furniture, and equipment for special events. Performs routine work in the preparation, lining, marking, and dragging of athletic fields or related areas.
- Performs routine, simple maintenance on equipment such as refueling and lubricating equipment, and replacing parts as needed.
- Under the direction of a Lead Grounds Worker or skilled maintenance worker (i.e., Metal Worker, Plumber, etc.), assists in performing skilled work involved in erecting and repairing fences, resurfacing asphalt, mixing and pouring cement, and installing athletic equipment, benches, and picnic tables.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience:
Two years of experience in the operation of large motorized grounds keeping equipment or vehicles.
Special:
- Possession of a valid California Class C Driver License.
Evidence of adequate insurance for a motor vehicle which meets or exceeds the California legal liability insurance requirement and continue to maintain insurability.
- Successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination.
- This classification has been designated as safety-sensitive in accordance with Public Law 102-143 and requires a pre-employment drug test as well as a continued drug-free lifestyle for continued employment in this classification.
- Federal law requires that employees receive additional ACBM training if they work in areas in which asbestos building materials may be disturbed.
IDEAL CANDIDATES WILL HAVE:
Knowledge of:
- Operation and routine maintenance of large power equipment used in grounds maintenance work.
- Basic methods, materials, and tools used in gardening and grounds maintenance work. Safe working methods and procedures.
Ability to:
- Perform heavy manual activities related to complex grounds maintenance work. Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
- Work effectively as part of a team.
- Manage time and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
- Ensure that tasks assigned to others are thoroughly completed. Use a computer and basic work-related software.
- Understand the importance of attendance, punctuality, and follow through.
