Established Topeka law firm seeks bookkeeper/accountant.
Experience with QuickBooks and Excel required. Duties will include payroll and management of client accounts, trust accounting, retirement, other employee benefits, preparation of financial reports as necessary, and preparing information for the firm tax accountant. Responsible for overseeing the firm’s financial data and compliance. Process case client settlements, initiate payments to vendors and clients via ACH, or check disbursements in trust accounts. Ensure all financial models, records, and related materials are kept up-to-date stored safely and can be be retained.
Responsibilities
- Prepare general ledger entries such as asset, liability, and capital account entries by compiling and analyzing account information
- Maintain auditable financial records utilizing internal controls by preparing and recommending accounting policies and procedures
- Secure client and firm confidential financial information with database backups
- Prepare payments by verifying documentation and requesting disbursements
- Process and record check request payments to clients for client expense tracking and produce reports as requested
- Verify completion of settlement distribution and any submitted ACHs for client settlements
- Create and process trust accounts for clients (deposits, settlements)
- Conduct daily and monthly bank activities ie: reconcile trust. bank and credit card accounts
- Process vendor invoices and payments while maintaining schedule for reoccurring vendor payments
- Identify and resolve discrepancies or exceptions regarding accounts payable vendors
- Process bi-monthly payroll for employees
- Maintain accurate files and processes to maximize productivity
- Perform other clerical support as needed
Qualifications/Skill Sets
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or a related field is required
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Microsoft 365
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong analytical skills
- Time management and organizational skills
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment
- Knowledge of relevant tax laws in accordance with the Bureau of Labor Statistics
- Experience with trust accounting
