DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
The work is primarily responsible for managing the daily operations of the Southern Branch Library. The Southern Branch Library is located in a shared-space facility jointly owned by Orange County and the Town of Carrboro and is scheduled to open in fall 2024. An employee in this class is responsible for supervising staff; coordinating maintenance and repairs; and ensuring excellent customer service for library patrons.
Work is performed under the general supervision of the Assistant Library Director with considerable leeway considerable leeway to exercise independent judgment within the framework of applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures in the performance of duties, both in terms of planning and accomplishing work, and in making decisions regarding customer needs and requests and conducting project assignments. Supervision is required of this class. Does related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from an accredited university or college that is accredited by the American Library Association with a Master’s Degree in Library Science and two (2) years of professional level library work experience and directly supervising library staff; OR
An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined above. A higher degree does not substitute for work experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
All offers of employment are conditional upon successful clearance of a background check. Employment cannot commence until the employee has been cleared.
Must be able to work a schedule that includes evening and weekend hours.
Must obtain certification as a North Carolina Public Librarian within six-months of hire.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND POSSIBLE HAZARDS
Ability to physically perform (with or without reasonable accommodation) basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions of the hands/wrists.
Ability to perform light work exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally to move objects.
Possess the visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures, perform accounting and extensive reading, and perform work on a computer.
Ability to work a schedule that included evening and weekend hours.
