Under the direct supervision of school administration, monitors hallways to ensure students report to assigned classrooms on time for scheduled subject matter and assists in maintaining a safe school environment by monitoring student activity in halls, building interior and exterior premises.
As an Educational Assistant, you would report to Principal/Assistant Principal or Coordinator
EDUCATION:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade, preferably supplemented with higher education or training.
EXPERIENCE:
Some prior experience in dealing with middle-school age students.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
School attendance and behavior codes
Student behavior and characteristics
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assists in the management of student behavior through the use of positive strategies and techniques;
- Monitors student activities on school premises;
- Alerts school police and school administrative staff to potential disruptions or incidents;
- Participates in student take-in, transition between classes, and dismissals;
- Monitors activity in the cafeteria during lunch periods;
- Monitors hallways while classes are in session;
- Submits verbal and written reports as required;
- Tutor and assist children individually or in small groups to help them master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers.
- Supervise students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, school yards, and gymnasiums, or on field trips.
- Discuss assigned duties with classroom teachers to coordinate instructional efforts.
- Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and materials to prevent injuries and damage.
- Present subject matter to students following the direction and guidance of teachers.
- Attend staff meetings and serve on committees, as requested.
- Prepare lesson materials, and bulletin board displays as requested
- Other duties as assigned.
