POSITION SUMMARY: Coordinates and schedules patient testing, procedures, and follow ups. Provides patient education regarding pre-procedure, post-procedure, testing, and follow up instructions.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinates and schedules all patient in office testing, procedures and follow ups. Provides and explains thoroughly and completely all testing and procedure instructions to patient.
- Faxes out of office procedure and testing orders to correct outpatient facilities. Provides and explains all instructions to patient.
- Faxes and provides patient with lab orders.
- Provides patient with orders and instructions. Follows up with facilities of patient completion. Obtains and ensures timely delivery of patient results.
- Follow up with patients who ask to schedule testing, procedures, and follow ups on a later date. Maintains documentation in patient medical record.
- Call patients to follow up after cancellations and/or no-shows and reschedules accordingly. Documents in medical record.
- Physician liaison for the hospital, includes discharge orders, follow ups, and test scheduling.
- Collects patient payments in accordance with patient benefits and fee schedules.
- Closes batches and scans completed batch by end of day.
- Coordinates with offices for testing referrals. Obtains orders and patient demographic information. Creates patient charts and update patient demographics and insurance in record as needed.
- Answers phone calls and assists the administrative specialists when needed.
- Sends in prescriptions and prescription refills per the physician request.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent is required, Associates or Bachelor's Degree preferred.
Experience: Two-years experience preferred.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Language - Ability to verbally communicate and understand details and instructions.
- Mathematical - Can perform basic mathematical calculations.
- Technical Aptitude - Comprehend medical topics and specialized information.
- Mental/Reasoning - Ability to exercise sound judgment, accurately take and record patient information, and assist with coordinating services.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Patient Care Coordinators must be able to sit for extended periods of time. The employee may occasionally have to bend, stretch or stoop. Manual dexterity sufficient to use a keyboard is required. Normal range of vision and hearing is needed for the accurate completions of tasks.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Working conditions are usually pleasant with the primary work environment being conducted in air-conditioned office space. The Patient Care Coordinator position requires the employee to work positively with other members of staff, patients and third parties to fulfill his or her duties.
