Night Shift Network Operations Engineer
THIS IS AN ONSITE ROLE, LOCATED IN PHILOMATH, OR.
The Night Shift Network Operations Engineer reports to the Chief Technology Officer and is responsible for implementing changes to the network while minimizing impact to the customer experience. These changes are necessary to meet the growing demands of our customer base. The Network Operations Engineer is expected to troubleshoot complex issues and must be proficient in the following areas:
- Layer 2 networking (switching)
- Layer 3 networking (Routing, OSPF, BGP, MPLS, etc.)
- Network Services (DNS, SNMP, RADIUS, TFTP, FIREWALL, Etc)
- Experience with Mikrotik RouterOS
- Virtualization Platforms (VMware & Proxmox)
- Understand 802.11 Wireless Standards
- Fixed Wireless Best Practices
- Fiber Optic Networking (AE and PON)
Core Role Responsibilities:
- Network Planning and Maintenance – Carrying out planned maintenance as requested by the CTO or Network Engineer (NetEng) to the standards developed by the Network Engineering team.
- Change Management - Ensure maintenance activities are coordinated within the organization and that all changes are documented in a timely manner.
- Tier III Escalation Requests - Respond to Customer Support escalation requests requiring advanced troubleshooting to solve customer impacting issues. Participate in after-hours on-call rotation for the Technical Engineering team.
- Provide exceptional written and verbal communication between team members and departments.
- Provide ticketing and process documentation.
- Participate in a 9-month night, 3-month day shift rotation.
- Participate in a 2 weekend on-call rotation every 8 weeks
Additional Responsibilities:
- Plan network changes to minimize downtime.
- Provide insights and feedback for future network configurations
- Configure equipment prior to scheduled maintenance/upgrades.
- Troubleshoot escalated & assigned network issues.
- Managed work schedule and communicate resource constraints.
- Look for opportunities to automate & improve work processes.
- Monitor network KPI(s) and recommend proactive changes to the network.
- Maintain awareness of publicly known on vulnerabilities, and keep network systems secure.
- Provide comprehensive, accurate, and timely updates on changes applied to the network.
- Perform other duties as required by the CTO.
- Infrequent travel to attend conferences & training opportunities.
Physical Requirements:
- Work at a desk for extended periods
- Traverse stairs and uneven ground
- The ability to lift 30 pounds
- Ability to effectively work during a nightshift rotation.
- Drive to off-site locations to perform work as required
Salary: $65,000 - $75,000 per year
