Job Overview:
Under the direction of the President, the Safety Manager develops, implements, and monitors the Company’s Safety and Environmental programs to meet government requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time.
2. Assists employees and management in understanding OSHA regulations and standards, including guidance on handling OSHA compliance, inspections, and citations.
3. Investigates serious injuries in conjunction with personnel, and notifies the management team of pertinent details.
4. Evaluates hazardous conditions and practices and develops hazard control practices and programs. Assists in communicating hazard control information and evaluates effectiveness of the control.
5. Overviews company accident statistics and makes recommendations for correction of problem areas.
6. Plans and directs safety and industrial hygiene services of insurance carriers to obtain optimum service.
7. Establishes target areas and long-range accident prevention and cost-control objectives.
8. Keeps informed of developments in federal and state safety, environmental and transportation laws likely to affect the company.
9. Acts as a company representative in dealing with government agencies on safety and health matters affecting the company.
10. Oversees the administration of workers' compensation program, including working with the insurance carrier to reduce employee lost time.
11. Develops and manages program to train on work site safety practices, fire prevention, and correct handling techniques for chemicals, equipment, and other topics.
12. Coordinates equipment inspections, including training employees on performing inspections.
13. Conducts new employee safety orientations to foster a safety focused culture.
14. Oversees DOT compliance of the AGRA Industries Drivers and fleet.
15. Manages all DNR programs to ensure compliance with permits.
Requirements:
Education and/or Experience
Requires a bachelor’s degree in safety management and 5 years of experience in a safety and environmental role; or an equivalent combination or experience and/or education. Experience in a manufacturing or construction setting is preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
30-hour OSHA Construction training/certification or the ability to complete within the first 30 days.
