We foster an inclusive culture and are looking for diverse, talented people to join Alcon. As a Sr Principal Scientist supporting the U.S. Development Preclinical Team, a typical day will include:
Ocular Pharmacokinetics:
Conduct studies to evaluate the absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion of ocular drugs.
Investigate factors affecting drug bioavailability in ocular tissues.
Develop and validate pharmacokinetic models specific to ocular drug delivery and disposition.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize drug formulations for ocular administration.
Knowledge of DMPK experimental aspects including microsomal stability assays, metabolite identification, enzyme inhibition and induction and protein binding
Pharmacology:
Design and execute in vivo experiments to assess drug efficacy and safety.
Utilize animal models to evaluate ocular drug candidates.
Collect and analyze pharmacodynamic data related to ocular drug effects.
Interpret results and provide recommendations for further development.
Mechanism of Action Analysis:
Investigate the molecular and cellular pathways underlying drug effects in the eye.
Employ techniques such as Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and gene expression analysis.
Collaborate with other scientists to elucidate drug mechanisms and identify potential targets.
Data Management and Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of experiments and results.
Prepare scientific reports, presentations, and publications.
Communicate findings to internal teams and external stakeholders.
Lead and contribute to the preparation of scientific reports and to submission of regulatory documents, such as IND and NDA filings
WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO ALCON:
Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school+15 yrs;Assoc.+11 yrs; M.S.+4 yrs; PhD+3 yrs)
The ability to fluently read, write, understand, and communicate in English

Preferred Experience:
Familiarity with ocular drug delivery systems and formulation development.
Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
Effective communication and collaboration abilities.
Hands-on experience with standard PK and M&S software (e.g., Phoenix WinNonlin/NLME, NONMEM, R, S-Plus, SimCYP)
Expertise in pharmacokinetic (PK) non-compartmental (NCA) data analyses and predictive simulations with nonclinical and/or clinical data
Strong understanding of biotransformation / drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics and have experience conducting in vitro and in vivo ADME assays
Experience with ocular tissue sampling and analysis.
Proficiency in pharmacokinetic modeling software.
Understanding of ocular disease pathophysiology.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
