Position Title: Certified Instrument Technician
Position Hours: Wellbridge is open Monday -Friday, No Holidays, No Call. May work varying days during the week due to being a PRN position.
Position Reports to: Facility Charge Nurse
Employee Exposure Determination: Category I - Jobs with tasks that routinely involve exposure or potential exposure to blood.
Education, Experience, and Licensure:
Graduate of a recognized and accredited Operating Room Technician Program. Current CRCST certification. Successful completion of BCLS Course within 90 days of employment or documentation of current BCLS certification.
Cognitive Abilities: Requires strong communication and organizational skills. Must demonstrate independent judgement and sound reasoning ability. Must be able to work closely with the Nursing Director to interpret rules, regulations, and licensing standards and effectively communicate and follow policies/procedures. Ability to comprehend and interpret complex clinical subject matter and meet department criteria for education and certifications. Ability to maintain concentration and organization while dealing with multiple issues and frequent interruptions.
Sensory Requirements: Must be able to respond to patient/family needs by interpreting verbal and non-verbal expressions. Must have clarity of vision and be able to distinguish between colors. Ability to distinguish between sounds and hear alarms, telephones, and patient calls for assistance.
Position Responsibilities- The general responsibilities of Scrub Technologist in the operating room/ procedure room under the direction of the Registered Nurse include (but are not limited to):
1. Assists with gowning and gloving other members of the surgical team.
2. Assists with the preparation of the operating room for surgical procedures.
3. Assists with skin preparations and with draping of patients.
4. Assists with care, preparation, maintenance and after-care of sterile and un-sterile supplies and equipment.
5. Knows and practices the principles and procedures of sterile technique.
6. Handles specimens in accordance with facility policy and procedures.
7. Removes drapes at end of procedure, cleanses the patients of prep solution and applies dressing as needed.
8. Cleans and/or disinfects instruments and equipment after use and returns it to the proper area for storage or processing.
9. Differentiates sterilization methods required for specific instruments and equipment.
10. Participates in sponge, instrument and needle count with the circulating nurse.
11. Demonstrates ability to understand and use sterilizers, high-level disinfectors, instrument washers, and other designated processors.
12. Demonstrates ability to understand use, function, interpretation, documentation, and record-keeping of chemical and biological indicators related to instrument and equipment high-level disinfection and sterilization processes.
13. Demonstrates understanding of operating room/procedure room technical equipment according to manufacturer’s guidelines, policy and procedures.
14. Assists with stocking, replenishing and preparation of supplies.
15. Updates knowledge in surgical techniques and related nursing care.
16. Checks updated schedule every morning and prepares room supplies and equipment.
17. Performs other position-related duties as assigned, depending on assignment setting.

Follows established facility policies and procedures with regard to attendance.
Performs all other duties as assigned by management.
Physical Demands
Ability to lift/transfer patients with assistance in excess of 100 pounds, which may require pushing, pulling and essentially utilizing a full range of body movement.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND EXPOSURE TO HAZARDS
Working environment is within the facility, and includes patients’ rooms, procedures/surgical suites, clinical support rooms, and common areas. Potential exposure to communicable diseases, contaminated body fluid, blood, biohazard materials, cleaning agents, and needle sticks. Potential risk for physical injury due to moving instruments and supplies.
MACHINES/EQUIPMENT USED: Sterile processing equipment used for surgical cases, office equipment, and computer.
Pay: $18.00 - $24.00 per hour
