FUNCTIONS OR SCOPE OF ASSIGNED DUTIES:
- Perform histology and cytology procedures including specimen processing/fixation, cell block preparation, embedding, microtomy, slide preparation, routine stains, immunohistochemical and special stains.
- Ability to consistently prepare and produce specimen sections with appropriate slide orientation, thickness, and stain quality for microscopic diagnosis by a pathologist.
- Prepare and maintain reagents for routine stains and histology procedures.
- Utilize laboratory information system to enter data and submit documentation.
- Perform preventive maintenance and minor troubleshooting on equipment and instrumentation per manufacturer & department procedures.
- Maintain a clean and well-organized work area.
- Maintain accurate records of laboratory procedures and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) logs.
- Ensure compliance with all safety, quality control and quality assurance standards and local and federal regulations (CLIA, OSHA, HIPAA).
- Maintain inventory and order supplies as needed.
- Maintain tissue, block, and slide files.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES:
- An associate's degree is required.
- This education must incorporate 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses or 24 semester hours of science courses that includes six semester hours of chemistry, six semester hours of biology or medical laboratory technology in any combination and three months of documented training in the field in which the individual perform high complexity testing.
- Certified as a Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) preferred or Board of Registry (BOR) eligible, with the ability to certify within six months from start of employment.
- We are willing to consider applicants who have met the education or experience requirements but have not yet obtained certification.
EXPERIENCE:
- 3 years of Histology Technician experience is preferred within the last ten years.
- Successful completion of a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) accredited Histotechnology program is preferred.
