Typical hours are Monday – Friday 1 pm – 5 pm or 2 pm – 6 pm; requires one weekend every month (Saturday 9 am – 6 pm and Sunday 2 pm – 6 pm).

Athens Regional Library System is hiring a Library Computer Assistant to provide help to patrons who use Athens-Clarke County Library’s public computers. The library will hire an enthusiastic, innovative, and flexible individual who proactively searches for opportunities to deliver quality library services that engage the community and exceed expectations.
This position requires a positive customer service attitude, dependability, tact, knowledge of library policies and procedures, and the ability to work independently. This position reports to the Assistant Director for Public Services.
High school diploma or equivalent preferred; college degree or experience desirable. At least two years of customer service is required, with library-related experience preferred. Significant Internet and general computer experience is essential. Or, a satisfactory combination of training and experience will be considered.
The following are normal, but not exclusive or all-inclusive, expectations for this job. Other duties of a similar nature or level may be required as assigned and job assignments, including schedule and night and weekend hours, may change in the future.

Provides outstanding direct customer service to library patrons who require assistance with using library computers.

Assists library patrons with using CD/DVD burners, scanners, printers and other computer peripherals

Assists with A/V setup for meeting rooms and events. Must have ability to learn how to use and setup basic A/V equipment, including projectors, microphones, and laptops for presentations.

Upholds all library policies, including the Patron Responsibilities and Conduct statement.

Monitors and responds to safety and security of library patrons and campus; addresses and reports situations according to outlined procedures.

May occasionally provide scheduled one-on-one tutorials for patrons on websites, computer software or apps.

Meets System expectation to participate in at least two approved off-site outreach programs each year.

Meets System expectation to complete at least 10 hours of approved work-related training activities during each year of employment.

Skill in upholding the library’s core values; ability to provide external and internal service that is welcoming, committed to excellence, inclusive, and respectful and that supports the community and co-workers.

Knowledge of customer service principles and skill in providing efficient, positive, and professional customer service to patrons of all ages as well as to co-workers.

Knowledge of policies and procedures of the Athens-Clarke County Library.

Knowledge of Microsoft Word and other Office programs in a Windows environment.

Knowledge of scanning and printing documents, editing images, working with PDF documents, and use of various storage media, including CDs and DVDs

Thorough knowledge of the Internet, including the use of Chrome and Firefox browsers, search techniques and social media platforms

Ability to assist patrons with online job applications, downloading and uploading files, email, and other similar tasks.

Knowledge of library technology services, including downloadable books and magazines, and the ability to assist patrons in their use.

Ability to handle a busy work environment; remain productive during slow times, be able to multitask effectively during busy times, exercise patience and professionalism during stressful situations.

Knowledge of all normal and emergency library building procedures.

Knowledge of basic office principles and skill in performing office and library resources support, including ability to collect cash money and make correct change mentally.

Ability to work independently within established guidelines, and as part of a team.

Ability to maintain regular, predictable and punctual attendance.

Ability to learn new technologies in a timely manner; must keep up-to-date on technology trends and developments.

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, in English.
