Job Description GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB General duties of this position involve servicing the needs of the motoring public and all police municipalities. This includes, but it not limited to, performing towing or transport of a damaged or disabled vehicle, performing jumpstarts, tire changes, winch outs, etc. This position also requires that operators tow a vehicle away from damage scenes and assist in the cleaning up of the roadway to remove all evidence of damage at the scene. A light duty tow truck operator will assist in all aspects of emergency road service, towing, and accident recovery as deemed appropriate by O’Hare Towing Service. While performing these duties the operator will present themselves as an excellent representative of O’Hare Towing Service and convey an image of professionalism, safety, and excellence. The operator will also be given duties within O’Hare facilities to perform when not out on call. The operator will perform all duties inside and outside of O’Hare facilities in a safe and timely manner meeting all the expectations of the company guidelines. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide all towing, road service, or any other service for a customer in a safe, professional, and timely manner without incident, accident, or injury;
- Properly securing vehicles for services in a safe manner every time a vehicle is serviced;
- Clean and remove debris from road way prior to leaving scene;
- Perform any service instructed by dispatch i.e. tow, winch-out, lock-out, tire change, etc.
- Abide by all traffic safety laws in order to maintain a clean motor vehicle record;
- Perform other duties as instructed: cleaning the shop, rearranging car lot, washing vehicles, or any other duties as instructed by management;
- Perform all duties asked upon in the workplace a safe, professional, and timely manner; without incident, accident, or injury;
- Arrive at work 15 minutes early to every scheduled shift properly dressed with all equipment on hand so there is no delay to start of day;
- Maintain personal towing equipment on hand at all times, i.e. tag lights, tow book, fuel card, lock out kit, personal tools, steel-toe boots, etc.
- Complete pre-trip checkouts on a daily basis with each piece of company equipment that is used during a given shift;
- Submit all invoices in a proper and timely fashion i.e. faxing them at the end of shift or dropping them with a dispatcher;
- Submit all daily operator sheets at the end of work week to maintain proper time and attendance records;
- Correctly fill out time and attendance sheets complete with call number of first and last call perform each day and any reason for staying late past shifts hours in the notes section;
- Maintain all company equipment in useable condition, with proper fluid levels and fuel no less than ½ full;
- Inspect company vehicles to ensure that proper equipment is present and in working condition;
- Maintain truck in a clean and professional state at all time, free of trash, excess filth, etc. so as not to offend a customer who rides along;
- Maintain an excellent attendance record, only missing work when unforeseen emergencies arise and communicating when they arise;
- Communicate with all coworkers in a courteous and professional manner;
- Communicate with all customers in a courteous and professional manner;
- Maintain personal appearance in a professional manner, facial hair kept in a trimmed and neat manner, personal hygiene kept to a standard that would not offend a customer, and hair kept to manageable and clean shape;
- Wear all company provided uniforms in a professional manner, shirts buttoned up to chest, button up shirts tucked in, pants worn at waist with a belt, steel-toe boots laced, hats to be worn forwards, and only wearing company provided uniforms that meet safety standards;
- Be prepared to be asked to work beyond 8 hour day when situations call for it;
- Be prepared to work on scheduled days off when situations call for it i.e. weather emergencies or high call volume;
- Attend safety, compliance, and driver mandated meetings in personal time without question;
- Greet each customer in a courteous and professional manner, offering to help them in any appropriate manner seen fit;
- Drive appropriately, always wearing a seatbelt, using proper signaling, appropriate use of amber lights, and obeying all traffic rules;
- Use proper invoices forms when called upon to do so;
- Responsible for the accurate collect for services perform when taking payment from a customer;
- Submit all payments taken, fuel receipts, and invoices from daily work at end of shift;
- Be willing to work holidays, weekends, and any other day as asked without issue;
- Make welcomed contributions to the company by always being on-time, prepared, treating co-workers with respect, and always seeking to improve company morale;
- Must accept that there is an obligation to work regardless of weather conditions, operators will be working in rain, sleet, snow, hot, humid, wind, etc;
- Must understand that their contributions greatly impact the reputation of O’Hare Towing Service.
Will Train For CDL-A if wanted. All training is paid
