Manager of Volunteer/Intern Services

POSITION PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES:
Plans, implements, and directs the Center’s volunteer and intern recruitment efforts, retention, engagement, and training of volunteers to provide a consistent pool of qualified volunteers assuring that the Center’s programs will continuously serve the community.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Proactively seeks recruitment avenues that will produce qualified volunteers and interns for the Center:
a. Maintains a thorough understanding of the recruitment needs of the Center by familiarity with program goals and objectives and working collaboratively and effectively with program staff.
b. Effectively and proactively communicate with colleagues on an ongoing basis as to the schedule of volunteers and interns, working towards filling scheduling gaps for full program support.
c. Accurately communicates the requirements and expectations of the positions to prospects.
d. Performs all recruitment and orientation activities.
e. Screens and selects volunteersby interviewing appropriately to match the needs and qualifications of the position. This includes thoroughly investigating the background and experience of candidates to ascertain qualifications and adhere to industry standard safety protocols
f. Maintain regular, personalized contact with volunteers to ensure that there are no concerns.
g. Provide orientation and training to incoming volunteers/interns and coordinate volunteer activities to assure implementation of efficient, effective service delivery, including periodic assessments and feedback.
h. Find community organizations and attend community meetings to develop volunteer recruitment avenues from local churches, organizations, etc.
i. Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with universities and other organizations (such as Urban League) for intern programs, including daily management of interns or service-learning placements, their projects, their verifications and reporting.
j. Solicit Colleges of Education for students and determine if SVSF fits requirements for their Service-Learning and Pre-Student Teaching Programs.
i. Maintain records of all placements and contacts
ii. Provide regular updates to ED/CEO and representatives of colleges
2. Ability to work with all levels of volunteers, including Board members.
3. Analyzes volunteer needs on an on-going basis, providing information and reports as requested.
4. Develops volunteer recruitment materials and communications that stress the Center’s mission to be approved by ED/CEO. Develops relationships with churches, companies, colleges, organizations and groups that they may increase the volunteer pool.
5. Coordinate and implement yearly staff trainings to be approved by ED/CEO
6. Demonstrates sensitivity to the diversity of the Agency’s mission.
7. Reports to ED/CEO status of operations and receive feedback surrounding problems/issues to assure continuous performance planning and evaluation.
8. Attends and participates in staff meetings, internal meetings and external functions on as needed basis.
9. Maintains currency in the profession by reading various forms of literature, attending seminars, workshops and conferences offered by professional organizations or academic institutions.
10. Maintain Center listings with online volunteer recruitment organizations, including social media platforms.
11. Manage volunteer database.
12. Input new volunteer contact information into the External Relations database on an at least monthly basis.
13. Appropriately represent the Center at speaking engagements, including but not limited to service-learning classes, community organizations and recruitment events, as well as media commentaries, as approved by ED/CEO.
14. If needed, ability to dismiss volunteers/interns.
15. Maintain records on the performance of volunteers/interns and the hours of service they complete for grant reporting purposes, letters of reference, etc.
16. Maintain regular correspondence with volunteers (ie: birthday cards, holiday notes, etc.)
17. Manage any volunteer celebration/appreciation activities/events, as approved by ED/CEO.
JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
1. Excellent oral and written communication skills
2. Strong interpersonal relations skills, able to positively manage a variety of personalities
3. Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and sense or urgency to ensure there is no disruption to services
4. Knowledge of and ability to use social media
5. Proficient public speaker
6. Self-motivated, results oriented professional cable of working (within position scope) without close supervision
7. Perform as an effective team member
8. Able and willing to maintain strict confidentiality
9. Able to be flexible to Center’s needs and in other circumstances as required
10. Sensitive to cultural and ethnic differences in target populations
11. Strong leadership skills with ability to motivate and encourage others
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in a non-profit related field and minimum of 5 years of Volunteer Management experience required
SKILLS REQUIRED: Computer skills, social media and internet, database management experience preferred, comfortable with public speaking/presentations

Pay: $45,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
