Summary:
Mainframe Network Engineer focuses on implementing and supporting data encryption initiatives for all data in transit to and from the mainframe. Here’s a breakdown of the role. This role requires a seasoned professional with extensive experience in mainframe networking, particularly in implementing and supporting encryption solutions. The engineer must be adept at handling production responsibilities, troubleshooting complex issues, and collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams to enhance security measures across mainframe environments. The ability to work independently, strong technical skills, and excellent communication are critical for success in this position.
Job Responsibilities:
- Encryption Initiative:
- Assessment: Evaluate all connections to and from the mainframe to determine encryption requirements.
- Implementation: Enable encryption for data in transit and support applications in adopting encryption protocols.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the mainframe security team to identify necessary certificates and assist in their deployment for encryption.
- Production Support:
- Network Operations: Handle production responsibilities related to mainframe networking technologies such as TCP/IP, VTAM, NDM/Connect: Direct, FTP, and TPX.
- On-call Rotation: Participate in on-call rotation to provide support outside of regular business hours as needed.
Required Skills:
- zERT and Policy Agent AT-TLS: Experience in reporting and understanding zERT information. Ability to code and troubleshoot Policy Agent AT-TLS rules using zOSMF.
- Data Encryption: Strong understanding of encryption technologies, protocols, and best practices, specifically as they apply to mainframe environments.
- Programming Skills: Proficiency in programming languages such as TSO/REXX or SAS for SMF record analysis.
- Mainframe Networking: Deep knowledge of IBM z/OS TCP/IP configuration and customization, as well as familiarity with IBM TSO and basic z/OS utilities.
- Mainframe Operations: Experience with IBM z/OS platform and software, including operation, customization, and troubleshooting.
- Tools Familiarity: Knowledge or familiarity with tools like CA/NetMaster, NDM/Connect: Direct, TPX, and experience with issue tracking systems like JIRA is advantageous.
