This employee works under the direction and supervision of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Chief Operator in the maintenance and repair of the wastewater treatment plant. Instructions to the employee may be general, though occasionally they may be detailed and specific and occasionally the employee may need to consider different courses of action or deviate from standard operating procedures to get the job done. The Wastewater Treatment Plant Chief Operator will check, monitor and review the completed work. The employee will use a variety of hand tools and light equipment.
Responsibilities
Sample duties and responsibilities include:
- Performs maintenance on the city’s wastewater treatment plant;
- Operates various types of hand tools and light equipment used in daily function of job;
- Cleans equipment and tools;
- Performs general plumbing and pipefitting work;
- Performs routine maintenance as assigned on mechanical equipment at wastewater treatment plant;
- Maintains grounds at sewer plant (i.e. mowing, trimming, pruning, etc...);
- Maintains required records pertaining to departmental activities assigned;
- Provides preventive maintenance where applicable;
- Investigates trouble reports to determine proper actions; and
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Sample Qualification requirements:
- Obtain knowledge of general construction practices
- Communicate effectively w/employees and citizens.
- Work under extreme weather conditions for long periods of time.
- Use tools necessary in the performance of required skills.
Education and/or Experience:
- High School diploma or GED;
- Experience in performing heavy manual work;
- Valid Driver’s License;
- Must have and maintain good work and attendance records.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
The employee regularly performs heavy manual labor including the ability to lift, carry, push and/or pull up to 75 lbs. frequently. Work is generally performed outdoors and the employee will be exposed to extreme weather conditions, sharp tools, machines with moving parts, excessive noise, dirt and dust. Workers are exposed to a variety of hazardous chemical agents used in water processing; are exposed to hazards related to work in confined spaces and must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
