The Manual Machinist will manufacture and modify parts with manual machines, such as Bridgeport-type mills, engine lathes, surface grinders, etc. by using typical or creative machining techniques and practices while adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
Responsibilities:

Manufacture and modify parts with manual machines, such as Bridgeport-type mills, engine lathes, surface grinders, etc. by using typical or creative machining techniques and practices while adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.

Plan machining from work schedules, engineering drawings and other sources.

Work independently or with other Machine Shop staff to determine work holding, tool holding, and tools required for jobs.

Anticipate tooling and material needs, check inventory, and place orders with supervisor as needed.

Occasionally operate CNC machines.

Maintain safe operations in compliance with safety procedures and regulations.

Maintain equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions and standards set forth by Team Penske. When necessary, repair machines and equipment and test operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance.

Accomplish organizational goals by accepting ownership and personal accountability for job done.

Keep equipment and work area clean and orderly according to Team Penske standards.

Arrive on time for scheduled work, work overtime and weekends as necessary.

Be dependable and professional, act with integrity, work effectively with others, take initiative, and be willing to apply new knowledge and skills.

Qualifications:

High school machining program and / or post-secondary technical school with earned diploma, certificate, or degree in machining trade training preferred.

7 years minimum experience operating manual machining equipment, such as Bridgeport-type mills, engine lathes, surface grinders, etc.

Must be able to use digital readouts and 2 and 3-axis mill CNC controllers.

Must be able to work independently.

Must be able to develop creative solutions to machining challenges.

Experienced with precision measuring instruments, both digital and analog.

Can read and understand drawings and specifications with above average understanding of geometric tolerances and dimensions.

Knowledge of work holding, tool holding, and tooling equipment used in manual machining.

Must possess above average math skills.

Must possess basic computer skills.

Must be able to adapt to frequent change, delays or unexpected events with a positive and constructive attitude.

Must be willing and able to work flexible hours due to changing work schedules and demands.

Must possess strong English communication skills (oral and written) as it relates to the job.

Must be able to produce parts to deadlines, accurate to the print and with a quality finish.

Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.
