JOB SUMMARY:
First shift, M-F, 6am-2pm, overtime as required. This position is responsible for the welding of Pressure Relief Devices. These devices are typically tig welded in accordance with AWS and/or ASME Codes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Operate fabrication equipment (semi-automated, lathe and hand-held TiG in
horizontal position or MiG) in the manufacture and test of rupture disk and/or other
pressure relief devices, in accordance with defined Manufacturing specifications.
- Calculate, program, set controls, and monitor laser welder operations; perform trial runs to
verify and capture machine settings and/or program control data.
- Weld products that perform strictly within defined pressure ranges and tolerances, and
according to AWS and/or ASME codes. Workmanship quality verified by weld section review
with engineering.
- Fusion welding with and without filler (autogenous) as applicable.
- Work with colleagues in Production, Materials, Engineering and other plant functions where
appropriate to achieve various production, quality, and lead time targets.
- Participate in maintaining a high-quality manufacturing environment. Contribute
suggestions that will improve products, and processes which in turn deliver quality,
productivity, and performance gains.
- Comply with all safety procedures and regulations. Suggest methods to improve safety and
efficiency where applicable.
- Monitor tooling and equipment in areas of responsibility; report repairs, upgrades, or
replacement to maintenance.
- Adhere to ISO 9001-2015, ASME and CE procedures.
- Inspect and measure parts and finished pieces to ensure quality and adherence to job
specification; maintain records.
- Support of visits, inspections, and audits from customers, and quality/regulatory bodies
within assigned manufacturing areas.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area that is compliant with all safety rules and regulations.
OTHER SKILLS & FUNCTIONS:
- Operate equipment supporting welding activity such as grinders or weld positioners.
- Perform other duties and project work as assigned by Production Supervisor.
- Ability to work under pressure to meet production targets.
- Responsible and flexible to the needs of customers.
- Good communication skills and ability to maintain good working relationships.
- Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to achieve objectives with minimal
supervision.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education: High School graduate or equivalent. Certified welder with a Welder Approval
Certificate to ASME Code, Section IX or AWS or equivalent vocational qualification.
Experience: 3+ years’ experience in material fabrication or similar trade involving precision
welding, ideally with pressure vessels or other equipment used in pressurized applications.
Precision welding on stainless steel. Dedication to producing work of the highest quality.
Knowledge: Knowledge of ASME IX or AWS or other equivalent codes. Ability to interpret
engineering drawings (blueprints) and technical calculations. Knowledge of high tech and CNC
equipment. Must have thorough knowledge of reading and understanding blueprints as well as
knowledge of measurement tools (e.g. tape measure, square, calipers). Ability to read and
understand welding procedures and use them in practical application.
Working Conditions: Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles
and outside weather conditions, particularly extreme heat during summer months. Regularly
exposed to moderate to loud noise level. Personal Protective Equipment is required but not
limited to steel-toed boots, welding helmet, and safety glasses.
Equipment/Tools Used: Tig and MiG welding machines and associated equipment. Weld lathe,
and associated hand tools. Will use other welding and soldering equipment as required. Metals
used range from Aluminum, carbon and stainless steels, and Exotic Ferrous Alloys. Use of filler
wire or rods of various diameters and materials.
Safety: Safe work performance is always required from each employee. Additionally, the proper
discharge of safety responsibilities is an integral part of each employee’s performance appraisal.
