X-Ray Technician
Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Practice Administrator and the physicians, produces high quality radiographs while delivering the least amount of ionizing radiation to the patient. Operates radiologic equipment to produce radiographs (x-rays) of body (usually upper extremity) for diagnostic purposes, as ordered by the physicians of the practice. Maintains equipment and schedules maintenance, and orders supplies for radiology in coordination with Practice Administrator.
Duties:
- Positions patient on examining table and adjusts immobilization devices to obtain optimum views of specified area of body requested by physician.
- Explains procedures to patient to reduce anxieties and obtain patient cooperation.
- Moves x-ray equipment into specified position and adjusts equipment controls to set exposure factors.
- Practices radiation protection techniques to minimize radiation to patient and staff.
- Downloads outside images into PACs system, as needed and requested by physicians.
- Creates CD of images for patients upon request.
- Orders supplies as required for radiology. Assures operations are compliant with OSHA standards.
- Adheres to COMAR Regulations of Radiology procedures and delivery of ionizing radiation, including monitoring Radiology procedures and safety for both technologist and patients.
- Schedules state inspections.
- Other duties as needed.
Experience:
- 1-year experience in busy practice of patient care environment.
- Knowledge of anatomy and physiology to perform x-ray testing.
- Knowledge of radiology equipment.
- Knowledge of safety hazards common to radiology including delivery of ionizing radiation, equipment, body mechanics, and patient movement.
- Skill in positioning patients.
- Awareness in identifying equipment problems.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.
- Ability to apply written guidelines and standardized work practices.
- Ability to communicate clearly.
Requirements:
- Associates degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school.
- Completion of course in radiologic technology approved by the American.
- Registry of Radiology Technologists.
- Successful completion of A.A.R.T. registry.
- Continuing education credits to maintain license/registration.
- 1-year experience in busy practice of patient care environment.
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (A.R.R.T.).
- Maryland State License
Physical Requirements:
Requires manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination for operation. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires standing on feet and walking for long periods of time to move throughout office, escorting patients as needed. Requires eyesight sufficient to operate equipment and review images.
