In a pioneering partnership with a leading research university we built our own patented lithium production process. We’ve put our know-how into building a better battery, we brought it to market, a movement has been built, and we need your help keeping this quickly growing ship orderly and transparent.
This is an in-office position based in our Seattle location 225 S Lucile St Seattle, WA 98108. Ability to commute is a must.
The Team:
You would join our accounting team of 2.
You would report directly to the Director of Accounting and would work closely with other staff members, customers, and vendors, in order to gather bills, receipts, and relevant information.
As part of a small team this position requires someone who gets things done. There is no one to delegate tasks to. A bias towards action, go-get-it-done-ness, and move fast while following financial controls and best practices is required.
You would be familiar with Quickbooks online and bill.com. Familiarization with Ordoro or shipping & inventory management software is a plus! There are times during the year you will only work on special projects such as the annual audit. Being able to pivot from day to day work to a special project is a must.
Your responsibilities would be:
Accounting Projects as Assigned (20%)
· As a quickly growing company a portion of your weekly workflow will change over time in response to the needs of the business.
· Month end close process.
· Audit support. Helping the accounting team collect documentation to support an annual audit.
· Payroll processing support. Our company uses Gusto.com for payroll. Occasionally you may need to update tax information for a new state or help with a reporting project.
Accounts Receivable (35%)
· Create invoices in Quickbooks online for B2B customers shipped goods and prepayment situations
· Record payments/bank deposits against those invoices based on checks received and from electronic payments notifications from Intuit / QBO.
· Keep AR current by following up with statements to customers that are coming due and working individually with customers that are past-due with a goal of 100% collection
· Collect reseller's or exemption certificates from all wholesale customers. Develop a system to keep track of renewals
Accounts Payable (30%)
· Set up vendor bills in Bill.com for review and approval by others
· Categorize and accept bank transactions & credit card transactions in QBO with support from the Director of Accounting.
· Use tax management: Ensure proper payment of sales tax and record use tax liability when not property paid.
· Collect and save all W9's from 1099-eligible vendors at the time of starting a relationship. Renew every year with ongoing vendors.
· Make sure payments to 1099-eligible vendors and their related transactions are recorded property and consistently in the books and manage 1099 annual reporting
Sales tax compliance (15%)
· Set up new states for sales tax collection when we have meet nexus requirements (We use Avalara software for sales tax compliance)
· Assist the Director of Accounting with managing all correspondence with tax authorities
As the Staff Accountant:
· You are a do-er. Your get things done. You’re the person everyone wanted on their study group in college because you made it happen.
· Exceptional attention to detail.
· High integrity.
· Comfort with routine and able to automate work flows where it makes sense.
· Quickbooks skills: you are very fluent in QBO or QBD
· Strong MS Excel skills, or the ability and interest to nerd out on learning it
· Excellent verbal communication skills – you’re good at asking clarifying questions and communicating with a wide range of people, including engineers, sales people, and bike geeks.
· Ability to think creatively and innovatively fitting a quickly growing small business.
· Professional judgment and discretion that comes from years of experience in the field.
· 4-year or 2-year degree in accounting plus 3+ years of hands-on accounting experience
· 1-2 years in Public Accounting is a plus!
· Strong fundamental knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
Job Title: Staff Accountant
· Reports to the Director of Accounting
· Weekly hours: 40 hours a week.
Salary: This is a 40 hour a week position.
o $58,000 a year plus sales growth bonus
· Benefits:

o 40 hours per week. 5 days a week with flexibility.
o 7 paid Federal Holidays (New Years Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day)
o 120 yearly Paid Time Off (PTO) hours, equal to just over 3 weeks off.
3 years employment: 160 yearly PTO hours.
5 years employment: 200 yearly PTO hours.
o Product test samples of new Dakota Lithium products for free.
o Employees are eligible for a free Hilltopper Electric Bike Kit of their choice after 3 months of employment or $1,000 towards a new Hilltopper electric bike.
o Employees have access to our Friends & Family discount program, which provides a limited number of 50% discounts on all Hilltopper E-Bikes & Dakota Lithium products.
o Eligible for monthly sales bonus program after 3 months employment (this is like a profit-sharing bonus, but bigger since it’s based on revenue growth).
