Associate Dance Teacher, Lower and Upper School

This position involves teaching dance in the Lower School and Upper School. This position will begin on August 1, 2024.
Specific duties include:
Upper School Dance - 20 hours per week
- Helping to create a safe learning environment for the students to strengthen their technique, build their confidence and enhance their creativity
- Instructing students in daily dance class with an emphasis on Modern, Ballet, Jazz and Choreography studies
- Instructing a personal fitness class with an emphasis on strength training and proper body alignment
- Provide feedback on student’s performance progress and learning
- Collaborating creatively with other divisions of Dance, as well as being open to working with Performing arts faculty on upcoming projects
- Helping plan dance curriculum each year
- Assisting and choreographing for Upper School Dance Ensemble
- Assisting and choreographing for annual dance concerts and overseeing student choreography showcases
- Assisting with costumes and uniforms
- Helping organize Dance Studio
Lower School Dance - 20 hours per week
- Helping to create a safe learning environment for the students to strengthen their technique, build their confidence and enhance their creativity
- Provide resources and tools to guide students in Dance
- Demonstrate and instruct specific dance techniques
- Provide feedback on student’s performance progress and learning
- Assisting and choreographing for annual dance concerts and overseeing student choreography showcases
- Fitting/Measuring for costumes
- Sending emails to parents and administration
The schedule would vary depending on our weekly duties for the assistant. Two days at the Lower School and two days at the Upper School and alternating the 5th day between the two schools.
Required Skills:
- Working knowledge and experience teaching all levels of:
- Modern Dance techniques: Horton, Graham and Limon, Classical Ballet, Jazz, Theater Dance, Choreography and Improvisation, Dance History and Dance Vocabulary
- Working knowledge and experience teaching fitness:
- Pilates, Yoga, weight training, cardio, stretch and injury prevention
- Excellent verbal communication skills demonstrating the ability and willingness to connect with students and co-workers in a caring and tactful manner
- Classroom management and organization
- Competency in Microsoft Office and Google Drive
Minimum Job Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree in Dance from an accredited institution of higher learning (Preferred)
- Professional dance experience required
- 3+ years of successful teaching and choreographing
The Associate Dance Teacher, Lower and Upper School position is paid according to an annual salary. Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Substantial benefits are available. EOE
