About Mel the Bakery
Mel is a small bakery focused on serving its neighborhood and community first. Offering a variety of hearth sourdough breads and pastry, Mel thoughtfully sources our grain from organic local and regional farms. All bread and pastry is handmade with respect and appreciation for the timeless craft. We offer a rotating selection of naturally leavened bread, pastry, coffee, and light fare.

Expectations
-Timely and reliable
-Prepare and serve a variety of hot and cold beverages, including coffee, espresso drinks, teas
- Take customer orders and provide recommendations based on their preferences
- Operate coffee brewing equipment, espresso machines, and other beverage equipment
- Prepare and present beverages according to established recipes and quality standards
- Handle cash transactions and operate the cash register in an accurate and efficient manner
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, including restocking supplies as needed
- Follow all food safety and sanitation guidelines to ensure the health and safety of customers
- Assist with bagging bread, pastry, and fulfilling orders
- Provide excellent customer service by greeting customers, answering questions, and resolving any issues or concerns
Desired Skills
-Previous experience in food service or as a barista is preferred but not required
- Knowledge of coffee brewing techniques and different coffee varieties
- Basic math skills for cash handling and measuring ingredients
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with customers
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and proper food handling procedures
- Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively
- Sales skills to upsell products or promote special offers
