JOB PURPOSE: The Senior Application Engineer is responsible for leading projects from the request for quote stage to the production tooling order stage of development and providing competent support to customer engineers. The Senior Application Engineer is responsible for understanding the design, function, and manufacturing of Bruss products. These include, but are not limited to dynamic seals, elastomeric gaskets, molded plastic covers and oil pans, bonded clutch pistons, and magnetic encoder rings. The Senior Application Engineer is responsible for understanding the function of customer internal combustion engines, electronic drives, transmissions, and axles. The Senior Application Engineer is responsible for direct technical communication with customer engineers and communicating customer requirements within the Bruss organization.
AUTHORITY: All employees have the authority to stop operations/production for the following three reasons:
1) a quality defect, 2) an unsafe act, or 3) a health hazard.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Main point of contact with customer engineers and technicians.
- Provide design direction to the CAD team based on the application and customer input.
- Creation of DFMEA product templates.
- Lead the creation of and execution of the DV Test Plan and Reports.
- Assure design conformity to Bruss standards
- To perform root cause analysis and generate reports on customer returned parts.
- Be available to travel to customer engineering and manufacturing locations when needed to assist in design collaboration, part evaluation, assembly trials, etc.
- Make technical presentations in front of the customer.
- Provide training to all Bruss North American Personnel with regards to product function.
- Mentor and train new Application Engineers as part of their on-boarding process.
- Effectively perform any other duties as assigned or deemed necessary and appropriate.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience, Competencies and Education
* BS in Engineering or STEM Discipline, Mechanical Engineering preferred.
* Five years of customer facing Application Engineering in Automotive Market
* Knowledge of internal combustion engines, e-drive systems, automatic transmissions, and axles required.
* Ability to work in MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and database software required.
* Project Management Experience strongly preferred can be trained.
* Ability to read drawings and apply the principals of GD&T.
* The ability to perform a tolerance stack.
* The ability to interpret and explain FEA results.
* CAD Experience is preferred, not required
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to sensitive customer inquiries or complaints. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics. Ability to focus and communicate clearly while under pressure.

Pay: $85,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
