CBA is dedicated to protecting birds and other wildlife and the habitat that supports them. CBA connects people with birds and nature through field trips, educational programming, advocacy, stewardship, and research. CBA collaborates with other local birding and environmental groups to help achieve common goals. Our activities are conducted by our volunteer board and members, executive director, and collaborators.

Position Summary:
This position is based at the Chicago Bird Alliance office in Chicago (5801-C N. Pulaski Chicago, IL 60646) and will report to the Executive Director.
The Part-time Office Manager will work closely with the Executive Director (staff), as well as the CBA Treasurer and President (volunteers). They will perform general office duties, provide support to the CBA officers, and support sales.
Essential Functions:
- Retrieve and route mail
- Monitor and respond to voicemail messages and the general CBA email account
- Manage email and regular mail campaigns
- Record checks and make deposits
- Record financial transactions, maintain financial records, and fact check financial data. Ensure entries are current and accurate.
- Assist with fundraising and development activities, including supporting fundraising events (bird seed sale, native plant sale).
- Maintain accurate donor records.
- Revise the office filing system.
- Work regularly and closely with staff, board members and volunteers.
- Maintain basic office administration functions.
- Perform activities related to the accounts payable function including reviewing, coding, and processing payments
- Perform accounts receivable functions including invoicing, deposits, collections, and revenue recognition
- Apply accounting policies, rules, and regulations to all work in order to ensure compliance with applicable standards
- Mail member perks and sales items
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
**Requirements**
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or commensurate work experience
- Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger
- Knowledge and understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
- Exemplify the CBA ethic: Problem-solving, collaborative, science-based, welcoming, inclusive, and enthusiastic about learning and teaching about birds and nature.
- Good organization, time management, attention to detail, high degree of accuracy and ability to multitask.
- Ability to get along with a variety of people, problem solve
- Candidate must be a self-motivated, independent, progress-driven individual who can make decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Must be able to effectively operate and utilize a computer, printer, telephone, and related software and apps (including Microsoft Suite and Google Workspace Tools).
- Proficient skills in QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel, and willingness to learn new software such as NEON CRM
- Occasional work on weekends, holidays, and evenings may be necessary.
Desired Qualifications:
- Minimum of three years’ relevant experience as a bookkeeper, preferably in a non-profit setting, is preferred.
- Experience working with donors, board members, and fundraising processes is a plus.
- Commitment to conservation and the mission of the Chicago Bird Alliance a plus.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
Expected hours: 15 – 20 per week
