JOB DUTIES:
- Reviews Physician's referral (prescription) and participant’s condition and medical records to determine physical therapy treatment required.
- Tests and measures participant’s strength, motor development, sensory perception, functional capacity, and respiratory and circulatory efficiency, and records findings to develop or revise treatment programs.
- Plans and prepares written treatment program based on evaluation of participant data.
- Administers manual exercises to improve and maintain function.
- Instructs, motivates, and assists resident to perform various physical activities and in use of assistant and supportive devices such as crutches, canes, and prostheses.
- Administers treatments involving application of physical agents
- Evaluates effects of treatment at various stages and adjusts treatments to achieve maximum benefit.
- Records treatment, response, and progress in participant’s chart or enters information into computer
- Instructs resident and family in treatment procedures to be continued at home.
- Participates actively in the interdisciplinary group by providing clinical expertise in team planning, problem solving, and processes.
- Fulfills all administrative requirements, including but not limited to collaboration with Occupational Therapist, attendance at team and staff meetings, and recording and tracking of physical therapy durable medical equipment.
- Evaluates, fits, and adjusts prosthetic and orthotic devices and recommends modification to Orthotics.
- Confers with Physician and other practitioners to obtain additional resident information, suggest revisions in treatment program, and integrate physical therapy treatment with other aspects of participant’s health care.
- Orients, instructs, and directs work activities of assistants, Tech’s and students.
- Plans and conducts lectures and training programs on physical therapy and related topics for medical staff, students, and community groups.
- Plans and develops physical therapy research programs and participates in conducting research.
- Responsible for supervising Rehab Techs, PTAs, and students.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Min. Requirements: Doctorate’s degree in Physical Therapist (DPT) from an accredited college or university approved by The American Physical Therapy Association and one (1) year of experience in a physical therapist position.
SPECIFIC SKILLS OR OTHER REQUIREMENT:
- Completion of clinical rotation/internship in the Health Care System.
- Valid licensed Physical Therapist in the state of Florida.
- Valid driver’s license and automobile insurance in the state of Florida.
- Reliable transportation to complete home and facility visits.
- At least one year of working with geriatric clients with/not limited to: CVA, MI, MS, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s/Dementia, Amputations.
- Proficient with orthopedic and neurologic disorders in the aging geriatric population
- Skilled in manual therapy, vestibular rehabilitation, concussion management and functional training techniques
- Ability to perform the essential functions and physical requirements (including, but not limited to: lifting participants and/or equipment, bending, pushing/pulling, kneeling) of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
