Job Description
The Systems Engineer combines an understanding of both engineering, program management, and proposal management in the performance of their tasks. They have overall technical responsibility of the system architecture, technical solution, and requirements. They work with various engineering and program management departments to manage and develop systems, subsystems, and systems of systems within the company. They develop prime contractor and subcontractor statements of work, develop system and performance requirements specification, and technically manage subcontractors. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
- Mentor and train other engineers and seek to continually improve processes.
- Provide clear goals for all areas of a project and oversee their timely execution.
- Be proactive about project challenges or constraints and seek to manage them to resolution.
- Perform analyses of customer documents. Develop required documents to include requirements specifications, statements of work, and other contract technical documents.
- Perform requirements analyses and derivations of system specifications.
- Develop requirements verification matrices, strategies, and test plans and procedures.
- Perform technical risk management assessments and develop the associated mitigation plans and strategies.
- Participate in internal and external technical design reviews.
- Ability to present to internal and external customer technical and leadership personnel.
- Ability to work in and lead in a team environment to achieve the overall technical and program goals and objectives.
- Work alongside project management teams to monitor progress and successfully implement all program requirements.
- Confident and comfortable working in a hands-on consultant capacity with minimal direction and oversight, must be self-motivated. Travel is required.
Required Qualifications
- Experienced in using modern systems engineering tools for requirements management and system modeling and design (e.g.; DOORS®, SysML, System Architect, etc.)
- Experienced in model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools and techniques.
- Demonstrated product development and leadership skills.
- Experienced in all aspects of technical product development to include requirements analysis, system design, preliminary/detailed design, development, and integration and test.
- Experienced in the development of aerospace and defense products such as airframes, avionics systems, and weapon systems including their associated software systems.
- Ability to respond to customer directed or requested engineering change proposals (ECPs) including developing the required technical changes, associated risks of execution, developing cost estimates, and implementation schedules.
- Professional work experience in team building and technical project management.
- Experience with software engineering, simulations, and modeling.
- Ability to work together with teams from several departments to facilitate the orderly execution of a proposed project plan.
- Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) with 2 years’ experience; 0 years’ experience with a Masters’ degree
- Must be a US Citizen with an active DoD Secret Clearance with an investigation date within the last 6 years.
- Ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) Clearance
- Ability to derive requirements from high level requirements.
- Ability to learn requirement management in DOORS.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience as a chief engineer, systems architect, or lead systems engineer.
- Experience in the development of complex hardware and software simulation systems.
- Experience leading and responding to multiple and concurrent engineering change proposals across a varied product line.
- Experience developing flight simulator products, to include full motion and static systems.
- Systems Engineering experience, including understanding of the systems engineering V and requirements management in DOORS.
- Experience with C2, Physical Security, Cybersecurity, and/or Communications systems
- Experience developing OPSCONS or CONOPS
- Experience in the military aerospace development environment is preferred.
- Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), including DODAF, SysML, and Cameo Enterprise Architect
- Experience with Agile Development
Education and Experience Credentials
- Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of engineering experience in the aerospace and defense market.
- Master’s degree in systems engineering, software engineering, or other technical degree is preferred.
Security Clearance
- Desired: Top Secret, or the ability to be sponsored to receive a Security Clearance.
- Highly Desired: TS//SCI (Active or Eligible).
Job Type
- 1099 Associate, with the possibility of a permanent full-time placement.
- Hybrid encompassing a combination of on-site, virtual work, and travel is expected. Final work location is engagement dependent.
