JOB SUMMARY:

This is an advanced manufacturing position in the mill department. As a Miller you are responsible for operating all milling units at the facility. This will also include performing Preventive Maintenance on equipment and Sanitation work as scheduled. This is a working foreman position in the Milling Department; people in this position are required to have knowledge of all jobs in the department. Experience in those jobs is preferred. The employees in this position (one person per shift on all three shifts) report to the Milling Superintendent and have responsibility for the operation and maintenance of the Milling Department while on duty and all that it entails

Job Type: Full-time (non-exempt/hourly)

Pay: $29.16 per hour starting wage (3rd class Miller, room for advancement to 1st class miller for higher pay)

Reports to: Plant Superintendent/ Mill Superintendent

Location: Los Angeles, CA

Schedule: Rotating schedule (3rd shift 4 weeks, 2nd shift 4 weeks, 1st shift 4 weeks OR 3rd shift 2 weeks, 2nd shift 2weeks, 1st shift 2 weeks) Shift hours 8-12 depending on business needs . 6-7 days a week

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

Conduct their own activities and direct the activities of one other Milling Department person on the shift in compliance with safety and plant rules, quality and Good Manufacturing Practices.
Assume responsibility for the Milling Department, including selecting and preparing the grain for milling, manufacturing the proper products on grade, including binning the products as specified.
Operate and direct the operation of all equipment in the department to ensure the production of specified products in a clean, wholesome, condition including; startup and shut down, running adjustments, malfunction correction, performance evaluation, routine maintenance, and lubrication.
Routinely observe and make decisions to ensure the preservation of the physical facility, including all utilities, pumps, compressors, roofs, etc.
Conduct routine maintenance on the department equipment as scheduled, and maintain the area in a clean, sanitary condition.
Responsible for sanitation is designated areas
Performing preventative maintenance duties around the mill/plant.
Assisting maintenance personnel with repairs as needed
Actively maintaining a safety culture. Always thinking of personal safety and that of your team members. Serve on safety and food safety committees
Performing different mill projects and other duties as assigned
Milling work hours will require all candidates to have flexible schedules for a rotating shift and projected overtime and perform job functions in Grain Craft’s physical mill environment, in accordance with set work schedule

OTHER JOB DUTIES:

Ability to demonstrate detailed orientation, which includes ensuring documentation is complete.
Ability to complete routine forms, using existing form letter, and/or conduct routine oral communications
Ability to operate equipment and ensure it stays in optimal performance specs.
Ability to climb ladders and work at elevated heights with proper PPE.
Ability to understand, remember, and apply oral/written instructions.
Ability to quickly make decisions that may have immediate impact on the work unit and department.
Ability to communicate with others effectively, and express or exchange ideas in a respectful manner.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
Fluent in English
Basic computer skills

Other: This position is contingent upon successfully passing both a background check and drug-screening. *Grain Craft maintains we are a drug-free company on all levels*

PREFERRED SKILLSET:

Previous manufacturing experience (food manufacturing a plus)
Basic mechanical skillset, familiar with using hand and power tools
Familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel
Basic troubleshooting skills, can make repairs on equipment
