Position Title: Life Enrichment Coordinator
Department: Life Enrichment
Reports To: Administrator, Jennings at Brecksville

Plan and lead group and individual activities for all residents in Assisted Living.

Teach and delegate to Resident Assistants how to assist with the Life Enrichment programs in Assisted Living.

Evaluate and assess residents’ needs in the area of therapeutic recreation and document findings on designated forms.
-
Identify problems and needs and develop a comprehensive care plan with the interdisciplinary team. Address social and recreational needs of the resident, set attainable goals and coordinate interventions.

Evaluate resident’s response to activities and interventions, communicate observations to care plan team and alter the care plan appropriately.

Attend interdisciplinary care conferences as assigned.
-
Plan and create monthly calendars for Assisted Living and Assisted Living residents.
-
Communicate scheduled activities to residents through posting calendars, verbal invitations, and group meetings including Resident Council.

Attract community events to Jennings Assisted Living and coordinate the planning efforts in preparation for them.
-
Coordinate special functions and route requests.
-
Assist residents to and from activities.
-
Set up and prepare areas for special activities and restore the area to its original condition at the conclusion of the activity.

Work with Jennings Volunteer Coordinator to recruit and onboard volunteers that can provide support and enhance the residents’ experience at Brecksville.
- Work flexible hours as assigned in order to provide evening and weekend activities.

Maintain an on-going inventory of departmental supplies and equipment.
-
Plan and organize the work day in a time and cost effective manner.
-
Set priorities for the day’s tasks, but also remain flexible to meet the needs of the department and the residents.
- Work independently and function as an effective team member.
-
Attend in-service training and continuing education workshops as assigned. Integrate content of continuing education into performance.
-
Focus on Person-Centered Care by promoting day to day interactions that are essential to that philosophy.
- Form personal and nurturing relationships with the residents.
-
Take initiative to find out what is important to the residents and ways in which to connect them with the things that they need to combat boredom, loneliness, and helplessness.
-
Utilize Person-Centered Care to create interactions and execute those interactions either individually or as part of a group.
-
Interpret verbal, physical, or social responses, whether appropriate or not, to decipher resident needs.
-
Look beyond typical “activity” duties to benefit overall care.
-
Coordinate the use of Jennings’ van or bus. This includes finding a driver, ensuring the gas tank is full, leaving the van or bus clean and tidy, and reporting any problems to the Transportation Supervisor or Maintenance Technician. Must have an understanding of all belts and buckles in the bus in order to provide passenger safety.

Notify nursing staff (Resident Care Coordinator or Neighborhood Coordinator) if a change in resident’s condition is noted.
- Provide a safe environment for residents, staff, volunteers, and visitors.

Assign tasks to volunteers and monitor their performance. Take part in appreciation activities.

Observe infection control procedures.

High School graduate or GED equivalent;
- ADC (Activity Director Certified) or ADC eligible.
- Understands and communicates job-related information and directions in English

Basic understanding of the needs of the elderly and a willingness to work with a variety of people.
- Creativity and a basic knowledge of life enriching activities and arts and crafts.
- Must have a spirit of cooperation and a pleasant, friendly personality.
